The Must See Broadway Musicals At Kimmel Center This Year
The Kimmel Center has announced its Broadway lineup for the 2018-2019 season. The musicals include classics such as Fiddler on the Roof and new hits such as Hamilton. Tickets are currently only available for subscribers but stay tuned to the Kimmel Center website for public ticket sales. Here are 10 must-see Broadway musicals at Kimmel Center.
1. Love Never Dies
Love Never Dies is the sequel to Phantom of the Opera. It is kicking off the 2018-2019 Broadway series. Leaving off where Phantom left off, it shows Christine and Phantom coming to New York City.
It will be at the Academy of Music from October 2-7, 2018.
2. Fiddler on the Roof
Fiddler on the Roof is a beloved Tony Award-winning musical that tells a tale of family and tradition. The music includes hits such as “Matchmaker” and “If I Were a Rich Man.”
It will be at the Academy of Music from October 23- October 28, 2018.
3. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory tells the tale of a young boy who defies the odds given to him and proves that we are more than our past. It is the stage interpretation of the movie.
This sweet musical comes to the Academy of Music from November 6-18, 2018.
4. Beautiful
Beautiful is the musical about the life of Carole King. It features hit songs by King as the story goes through her life, from her beginnings to her success.
The musical beautifies the Academy of Music from January 8- 20, 2019.
5. Rent
Rent is one of the most popular contemporary musicals of this generation. It documents the life of a group of young adults battling contemporary issues in New York City, such as high rent and HIV/AIDS.
The musical will be at the Academy of Music for its 20th-anniversary tour from March 5-10, 2019.
6. Miss Saigon
Miss Saigon is a musical based on Madame Butterfly. It tells the story of an Asian woman who was betrayed by her American lover. There are tons of great Broadway musicals At Kimmel Center this season!
It is still on Broadway and coming to Philadelphia’s Academy of Music from March 19-31, 2019.
7. Anastasia
Anastasia is the stage adaptation of the classic Disney movie and tells of the adventures of Duchess Anastasia’s escape from execution. The musical premiered on Broadway in 2017.
It will come to the Academy of Music from April 9-14, 2019.
8. Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon, created by the people who brought you South Park. The musical is a fun musical that tells the story of Mormons who are sent on a mission to spread the Mormon religion in Africa and the adventures that ensue.
The musical comes to the Academy of Music May 28- June 9, 2019.
9. Cats
Cats is one of the most beloved musicals of all times. Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on a book by T.S. Elliot, it tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles.
The musical crawls to Philadelphia’s Forrest Theatre from June 18-30, 2019.
10. Hamilton
Hamilton, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda based on the Alexander Hamilton biography by Ron Chernow. The musical incorporates a wide variety of music to tell Alexander Hamilton’s life, from his upbringing to his death.
The smash hit comes to the Forrest Theatre from August 27-September 8, 2019.
