The Most Unhealthy Salad Dressings You Should Avoid

Most people agree that salads are some of the healthiest meals you can eat. All the fruit and vegetables that make up a salad are low in calories and full of nutrition. However, all the benefits of a salad can be thrown out if you add the wrong dressing. Some dressing will not affect a salad’s health benefits but adding high calorie or sugary dressings will make it less nutritious than a fast-food taco. Here are some of the unhealthiest salad dressings you should avoid while on a diet.

1. Wish-Bone Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing

While Caesar dressing might not be the healthiest choice from the start, the Wish-Bone Creamy Caesar Salad Dressing is worse than the average bottle of Caesar. While most Caesar dressings are around 80-120 calories on average, Wish-Bone Creamy Caesar Dressing has 180 calories per serving. It also contains 290mgs of sodium which is high compared to other caesar dressings on the market.

Each serving of this dressing has 18 grams of fats which is 30% of the recommended daily value! If that doesn’t turn you off of this brand of Caesar dressing, then knowing that the main ingredient is inflammatory soybean oil might. It also contains both sugar and corn syrup which can destroy your diet. If you absolutely need Caesar dressing, then try finding an organic version with only 80 calories. While it might not be the best option out there, it will tide over your carving and be much better for you than the Wish-Bone Creamy Caesar.

2. Girard’s Light Champagne Dressing

Don’t be fooled by the word light on this brand of champagne dressing. Although Girard’s Light Champagne Dressing only has 60 calories, it has 470mgs of sodium per serving. That is 1/4th of the recommended sodium intake! By the way, one serving of this dressing is only 2 tablespoons. Many people in the United States use up to double the recommended serving size.

High amounts of sodium can do more than kill your diet. Eating an excess of salt can raise blood pressure and increase your risk of heart disease. It can also cause stroke, stomach cancer, and kidney disease. Always look at sodium levels in salad dressing, especially ones that say light. Just because it is low in calories doesn’t make it healthy!

3. Kens Thousand Island Dressing

Thousand island dressing is another type of salad dressing you generally want to stay away from when you are trying to lose weight. That being said, some Thousand Island dressings are better than others. The main one you want to stay away from is Ken’s Thousand Island Dressing. It has 140 calories with around 300mgs of sodium. It also contains 13gs of fat, 2 of which are saturated.

That isn’t even the worst part about this dressing. Ken’s Thousand Island Dressing contains loads of corn syrup as well as chemical preservatives. This makes the dressing very fattening and extremely unhealthy. Some of the chemical preservatives are even believed to cause cancer. With all of these terrible additives, putting on a few pounds would be the least of your worries.

4. Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Jalapeno Ranch

Anyone on a diet should steer clear of Velveeta. For those who don’t know what Velveeta is, it’s a fake cheese that is made from many different kinds of chemicals that are horrid for your body. Now mix that chemical-ridden cheese with one of the unhealthiest kinds of salad dressings blended with fake jalapenos and BAM! You got yourself Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Jalapeno Ranch.

This salad dressing consists of 120 calories, 12gs of fat, and 350mgs of sodium per serving. It contains 18% of your recommended daily fat intake with 2 of the 12 grams coming from saturated fat. With this and all the added chemicals, this dressing is hell on your body. Anything with Velveeta in it should be a big warning sign for people to stay away if they are watching their figure.

5. Ken’s Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch

As stated before, Ranch is one of the worst salad dressing you can use when trying to lose weight. While most brands of ranch are unhealthy, Ken’s Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch is one of the worst. It is nearly 200 calories per serving (most people use about 3 or 4 servings) and has 20 grams of fat with 3 coming from saturated fat. It also has 260mgs of sodium and 1 gram of sugar.

Ken’s Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch uses inflammatory soybean oil with “natural flavor” which pretty much tells you its full of nasty chemicals and other unhealthy ingredients. These filler additives cause the dressing to be extremely high in fat content making you plump up beyond belief. It is best to just avoid Ken’s Steakhouse Buttermilk Ranch at all costs when you are on a diet.

6. Walden Farms Sugar-Free Thousand Island

Walden Farms Sugar-Free Thousand Island makes this list for different reasons than the other unhealthy salad dressings. Even though this dressing has 0 calories, sugar, and carbs with only 190mgs of sodium, it is still one of the worst salad dressing for you. It has a California Proposition 65 warning label on it saying, “This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm” making it the worst salad dressing to consume rather or not you’re on a diet.

The fact that the dressing contains cancer-causing and other dangerous chemicals while still being available on the market is flabbergasting. You are probably better off eating any of the other unhealthy dressing on this list before eating this abhorrent substance. This is a prime example of why you should research what you put in your body before consuming it.

All salad dressing is not created equal. Some are very low calories rich with essential vitamins while others are extremely fattening full of nasty additives. This list contains just a few common unhealthy salad dressings, but feel free to share some more in the comments below!
