The Most Iconic Celebrity Fashion Looks of The Decade

We look to celebrity fashion for inspiration and admiration, as well as unleashing our inner fashion critic. As the decade will soon come to a close, we can always look back and remember the exciting, meme-filled years of 2010 to 2019 through these iconic celebrity fashion looks!

Lady Gaga’s meat dress at the 2010 VMAs

By far the most unique, and well, weirdest dress to ever have been worn at an award show goes to Lady Gaga. Clearly, 2010 was the year innovation and thinking way outside of the box, which puts an amazing start to our most recent decade. Lady Gaga won five awards that year, one of which was Video of the Year for her hit “Bad Romance.” Gaga stated that the whole purpose of wearing the meat dress meant “no disrespect” towards vegans and vegetarians, but instead a call for action because “if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.” The infamous meat dress is now stored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. While the dress was raw when Gaga wore it, it has now been taxidermied and painted to look like its original raw color.

Kim Kardashian’s couch dress at the 2013 Met Gala

Before she decided to “break the internet,” Kim Kardashian made internet meme waves by wearing this grandma-couch-inspired dress at the 2013 punk-themed Met Gala. Designed by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, this bold, floral patterned, cover-all dress was actually meant to embrace Kim’s “blooming” pregnancy at the time. Instead of going for a look that was either safe or slimming, Kim Kardashian decided to wear what she wanted to her first Met Gala as Kanye’s plus-one. This has reportedly turned into one of her favorite looks, which she even re-created one year for Halloween!

Miley Cyrus’ performance at the 2013 VMAs

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards was probably the biggest turning-point of Miley Cyrus’ career. Formerly known as a Disney star sweetheart, Miley was about to shock the whole world watching her performance of “We Can’t Stop” with Robin Thicke. She also managed to mainstream twerking on live television, which most of us have never heard or seen of before that memorable moment. While there’s not much to say about her nude latex outfit, that performance and introduction of a new Miley era will forever go down in pop culture history books.

Rihanna’s naked dress at the 2014 CFDA Awards

Apparently being almost naked was the trend of the mid-2010s. Rihanna stunned fans and pop culture watchers all over the world as she practically showed up naked to the 2014 CFDA Awards. Granted, her dress wasn’t Rose-McGowan-1998 status but it was quite similar, with an added 1920s-esque twist to the entire look. Luckily, the effectively placed sequins on her dress reflected some flash-back which prevented her to look completely naked in photos. But in my opinion, Rihanna actually successfully made being naked in public look classy and glamorous, as she always tends to do.

Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 1 release 2015

While this isn’t exactly a single look on one person, Kanye West gave 2015 New York Fashion week a proper start by releasing his Yeezy Season 1 collection in collaboration with Adidas Originals. A-list celebrities like Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Rihanna sat in the front row while Kylie Jenner modeled for the brand. Kanye’s Yeezy collection focuses on quality neutral-colored basics that you can easily mix-and-match. Honestly, it all looks like homeless-chic, but to each their own. Kanye’s Yeezy brand can still be bought by the general public today at a cost, making his celebrity fashion brand release the beginning of an era.

Katy Perry at the 2018 Met Gala

Our favorite “California Girls” singer took the 2018 Met Gala theme of ‘Heavenly Bodies’ by the reigns. Her over-the-top angel wings made her entire presence unmissable and eye-catching, even through TV screens and red-carpet photos. Truly a white-and-gold ethereal angel that year, Katy Perry revealed one of her best Met Gala looks ever worn.

Zendaya at the 2019 Met Gala

Another Met Gala stunner a year later, Zendaya made us go “aww!” at our screens as she embodied her take on this year’s theme of ‘Camp’ by showing up as Cinderella. One of the best fairy-tale moments from her look was when she had her “fairy godmother” magically light up her big blue dress. Another memorable moment was when she walked up the steps and “accidentally” left her shoe behind, perfectly reenacting the Disney princess’ signature move.
