You could go on and on about the benefits and positives of attending college. You’re given the opportunity to earn a higher education and to qualify for salary-paid jobs in your career field, all amidst being surrounded by friends and campus events that’ll make your experience more than worthwhile. Parties, friends and networking while working toward your future? Who wouldn’t want that?
Well, unfortunately, there’s a balance to everything in life, including college. When times start to get a little rough, you’re going to need some effective stress relievers. And that’s why we’re here! Rather than resorting to Netflix and the fetal position in your times of despair, we’ve assembled a list of things you can do to get you back in the game. Check out these stress relievers and give them a try!
1. Sleep
We understand that life happens. You may be tempted to stay up until 3:30 a.m. to study for a test or to dance your life away at a party with friends. You may even wake up the next day and feel as if the deprivation had no effect, and that having an inconsistent sleeping schedule isn’t so bad after all. But that’s where you’re wrong.
Sleep isn’t one of the necessities of life for just any old reason. A good night’s rest is often overlooked without knowledge of how vital it can be when it comes to your mental state and overall college success. Developing a routine of going to bed and waking up around a reasonable time trains your mind and body to align with the hours of the sun, thus giving you the proper energy needed to last you throughout the day!
2. Exercise
There are tons of studies out there supporting the notion of occasional, moderate exercise substantially decreasing stress levels. As little as 20-30 minutes a day could assist in clearing your mind and keeping you on track!
A big benefit of exercise is the fact that there are so many different ways you can go about doing it. Some are more desirable than others, so do something you enjoy! Go hiking, swimming, etc. Anything that gets the heart pumping!
3. Mental Health Days
It’s safe to say you’ll have a lot on your plate during your college career. Responsibilities and other things to take care of will start to seem like they’re appearing out of thin air. With so much to do and such little time, it’ll be easy to find yourself constantly on the move with no time dedicated for personal time off to get away from things.
Everyone needs a break! And with all that work you’re putting in, you should reward yourself sometimes. You deserve it. Every now and then, take a day off and focus solely on you. Do whatever you want. Enjoy yourself! This is potentially one of the world’s greatest stress relievers when utilized at the appropriate times.
4. Have An Outlet
Sometimes distractions aren’t as bad as they’re known to be. In this case, they can serve as one of the stress relievers that’ll help!
View these as mental health breaks, but only temporarily. When you’re feeling stressed, breathe. Take a step back and do one of your favorite hobbies for an hour or two. Take your mind off everything and come back with a refreshed mindset.
As busy as life gets, coming across moments of stress should almost be expected; it’s practically inevitable. And if you know stress like we do, it’s the first thing that’ll have you frustrated and overwhelmed!
Thankfully though, with the help of these stress relievers, you now have multiple methods of overcoming those tough times. Give them a try and let us know how it went!
