Have huge aspirations of getting into an elite college? While you should always reach for the stars, make sure you have realistic expectations and goals. Here’s a list of colleges with extremely low acceptance rates!
A common theme amongst colleges with low acceptance rates is that most of them have held their doors open for what seems like forever. Established in 1861, MIT has an acceptance rate of %7.9. As the name suggests, the college is known for having the best programs in sciences and technology. There’s a reason why science nerds in films and television shows often have MIT in their background.
Another college that you’ve probably heard referenced in media; Princeton, this “Ivy League” school was established in 1746(yeah it’s that old). Interestingly enough, this was one of the nine original schools of higher education so you can imagine why the school has such a prestigious reputation. With an acceptance rate of %7.4, it’s no wonder why influential people such as scientist, scholars, and even two presidents have passed through its doors.
Yale is one of those mythical colleges that seems impossible for mere peasants to attend. Established in 1701, Yale is a 200-year-old institute that’s managed to retain its illustrious reputation throughout its existence. With an acceptance rate of %6.3, the institute has produced twenty supreme court judges, thirteen billionaires, and five presidents. With such an impressive lineup of previous students, good luck with becoming amongst the ranks of these influential individuals.
Next up on the list of places that will probably throw your application in the trash, is Havard University. Founded in 1663, Havard claims the title of the oldest college in America. Not to sound like a broken record, but this is yet again another institute filled with wealthy and powerful people. Usually, only the upper class/social elite are permitted to Havard and the %5.3 admission rate supports this fact. To recount the countless times I’ve heard this school referenced in media would be truly exhausting. Usually, when the average American thinks of college, this institute usually pops into their mind as a representation of the upper class.
Okay, you get it by now, Standford is another college meant for intelligent gods among men. Interesting enough, the founder Yahoo, Google, Nike, and even Instagram were Standford grads. Meaning that in terms of the digital age, this place has arguably produced some of the most important people of this generation. The acceptance rate is that of %5.1 so maybe if you’re some prodigal child of this new generation, you’ll perhaps have a shot of attending this highly distinguished institute. This is one of the college with the lowest acceptance rates!
So this list may understandably intimidate future college students, but don’t let it stop you from applying. Like I said earlier, you gotta reach for the stars in order to truly achieve greatness. No matter how slim the chances may seem, you have to at least try. If Havard is your dream school and you’ve got the grades to back up your desires, don’t let the fear of failure stop you. I should also stress that where you receive your education does not equate to your value/intelligence. No matter how illustrious any organization/institute may seem, they are only given value by how much importance we place on them. No matter if you received your degree from Standford University or from your local community college, take pride in the fact that you’ve obtained enlightenment from an institute of higher learning. Continue to strive for greatness and self-improvement because, at one point, all of the brilliant minds within Harvard, Standford, and Yale were once in a similar position such as yourself.
