The Low Down On The James Charles vs. Tati Westbrook Drama
If you haven’t been on the internet the past week or so, there’s a chance that you missed out on the heated feud between Youtubers James Charles and Tati Westbrook.
Though there are so many small details, I am here to catch you up on the overall situation. Bear with me, it’s a bit confusing.
1. Tati’s “Goodbye Sister”
Tati began the public confrontation with her Youtube video titled “Goodbye Sister”.
*It is interesting to note that she has since deleted this video
In this 43 minute video, Tati calls James to the table and accuses him of a lot of serious things.
To give some base information on Tati, she owns a vitamin brand called Halo Beauty. Halo is a top competitor with the viral vitamin Sugar Bear Hair. Tati and ex close-friend James had several conversations about this. James swore to Tati that his loyalty was in her brand.
To make an entirely too long story super short: After a supposed safety-hazard at Coachella, James betrayed Tati’s trust and signed a contract with Sugar Bear Hair, who promised him artist passes for the remainder of the festival.
Tati took to Instagram to express her disappointment. James later issued an apology via his Instagram story for promoting a vitamin brand that was not hers.
Throughout the video, Tati makes several bold claims against James. The most notable was when she claimed that he manipulates straight men into performing sexually in his favor because he is a ‘celebrity’. She notes a moment that later explodes on the internet. She said that for her birthday dinner, James made several inappropriate remarks about their waiter. That waiter’s name was later revealed to be Sam. She then takes a dig at James’ mother, randomly enough.
Overall, she expressed that she just wanted to call for James to change his ways. She believes that he abuses his power, and takes his opportunities for granted. She said “you are a 19-year-old millionaire. You do not get to wake up and stress out over how unfair your job is.”
Whew. That’s a lot.
2. Responses Form
After Tati posted her video, the responses came flowing in. Everyone on social media has to share their opinions, and this matter was no different.
James Charles took a major hit. His Youtube subscriber count went from over 16 million to 13 million. He lost several connections- both business and celebrity friendship wise.
Many took to Twitter stating their disgust in James. Jeffree Star played a major part in this discussion, calling James a “danger to society”. Yikes.
Screenshots started to leak, some fake and some real, revealing James’ personal messages with several young men.
3. James’ Initial Response Video
James posted a response to Tati’s original video in which he showed a lot of emotion and remorse.
However, he did mention that a lot of what Tati shared was misinformation. He also came to his mother’s defense.
He repeated over and over his apology to Tati.
Is that is? Can we put this to rest now? No, of course not.
4. James’ Second Video
James posted his professional video, in which he showed less emotion and shared more information.
He really didn’t come to play with this video. James took all of the points that Tati made, and showed screenshot proof that seems to show that she didn’t share the entire truth.
James references Sam and shows direct messages to prove that their relationship was consensual, and feelings seemed to be reciprocated.
In this video, James did again express how sorry he was for the situation. However, he did show via screenshots that he tried numerous times to reach out to Tati and make things right. She ignored.
He has since gained a million subscribers back.
5. Jeffree Star, Somehow?
Jeffree Star has somehow squeezed his way into this drama, though it really doesn’t have much to do with him.
In James’ video, he shared SEVERAL disgusting messages from Jeffree. Jeffree was accusing James further of manipulating men.
Whether or not these claims are true, the public does not entirely know. However, the language that Jeffree used was disgusting.
He also claims that James has been banned from his house for months. Weird, however, that just 2 months ago he was tweeting Charles about how much he missed him.
Something just doesn’t sound right here.
6. Moral Of The Story
How about we stop ‘cancel culture’. Let’s stop airing out our problems online. Let’s stop judging so quickly. Let’s stop ‘guilty until proven innocent’ mentality.
