The Greatest Tips for Healthy Hair You Need

Winter may have come and gone, which means that it may be time for a hair tune-up. Whether you were stuck inside an overheated office or braving the chilly outdoors, the lack of humidity has likely left your strands dry, dull, and prone to breakage. So what now? Well, it’s time to keep your hair healthy, so you have luscious and shiny locks for summer. Here are the most fabulous tips for healthy hair that you need to know.

Strengthen Your Hair From The Inside Out

You’re eating clean(ish), kind of getting into yoga(?!), and now you’re ready to make your wildest hair dreams come true. If you have always dreamed of having healthy hair like a mermaid’s then the first step is to start eating a nutrient-dense diet. Try eating eggs for protein, salmon for omega-3 fatty acids, leafy greens like spinach for iron, and a variety of fruits and veggies for vitamins A, B, C, D, and E. Eating a healthy diet equal healthy hair.

Avoid Heat

I know, I know, this one can be a little bit tricky, especially if you love to go out. Avoiding heat is essential to have healthy hair. If you have straight hair and want it to be curly, use curling rods instead of a damaging hair curler. If you have curly hair and want to straighten it out, make sure your straightener is set on very low heat. Pro tip: It should be able to go across a sheet of paper without leaving a yellow mark if it does, then you know that it is too hot. Avoiding heated hair products will allow your hair to stay strong, shiny, and healthy. We get it; you aren’t always going to be able to avoid heat. For the times you need to use a curling iron or straightener, be sure to use products that will protect your hair from the heat.

Protect Your Hair Overnight

Ever wonder how celebrities have such great hair? Well, ladies, I think I found the answer. Whether you’re the type to sleep pretty still or toss and turn until you manage to take control of all the blankets (you know who you are), swap your cotton or flannel pillowcases in favor of silk or satin ones. The smooth materials are gentler on your hair’s cuticles. Other fabrics that can lead to lousy breakage, and who wants that? You’ll actually wake up with softer, shinier strands. Pretty dreamy, huh?

Deep Cleanse

Shampooing daily can lead to dull color and dry hair. To switch things up between deep cleans, use a sulfate-free cleansing conditioner to wash on the regular. Sulfate-free cleansing conditioner gently cleanses your scalp and strands while also hydrating your hair. Talk about killing two birds with one stone. Am I right?

Use Oil

Give your scalp the same TLC as the rest of your skin. Your scalp is a direct component of having healthy hair, so giving it a little love from now and then is encouraged. When you add oil to your hair, not only does it feel like a hair facial, but it also gives your hair a beautiful and healthy natural glow. Oil also is excellent for hydrating your hair. Gorgeous hair, here you come!

Drop The Dead Ends

Dead ends are the worst, and the second you get them, the higher and higher they end up splitting. When we have split ends, it causes your hair to look frizzy and dead. Nothings dulls your hair like split ends to be sure to get them cut off regularly!

Choose The Right Hair Tye

Stop using damaging hair ties. If you ask any beauty guru, especially ones with gorgeous hair, they will tell you not to use the standard and damaging elastic hair tye. Opt for the old school scrunchies or a gentle cloth hair tie. This will result in less damage to your luscious locks and less breakage. Trust us; scrunchies are the way to go!

Avoid Coloring Your Hair

We love coloring our hair, and during quarantine, it is becoming more and more appealing, but if you are trying to have healthy hair, you’ll want to avoid coloring it. Hair colors are ammonia-based, which is a bleaching agent that can harm your scalp and cause hair damage. When you color your hair, the hair dye will take away the moisture of your hair, leaving it dry AF. Instead of using chemical-based hair colors, try using natural hair colors that won’t be as harsh on your scalp.

Supplementation

Before taking any kind of hair supplement, be sure to consult a dermatologist to know what supplements are the best for your hair type. Supplements will give you the required nutrients that we need for healthy hair. When you take these supplements, they can help your hair look healthier and also boost your hair growth. You will have healthy-looking hair in no time.

Brush Your Hair Before You Shower

No matter what type of hair you have, brushing it before your shower can help you maintain beautiful and long hair. Before you shower, take 60 seconds to de-tangle and brush through your hair. When our hair is wet, it is more prone to breakage. If you brush it dry, it can also help disperse natural oils throughout your hair. Plus, once you’re out of the shower, it is already ready to style!

Hair Masks

Two words. Hair masks. Using a hair mask will keep your hair hydrated and smooth. Hair masks aren’t as popular as they should be because they are SO beneficial to your hair. The next time you are at the store, pick up a hair mask. We promise it will leave your hair feeling soft and shiny without weighing hair down.

Having healthy hair can be hard, and there is a lot of misconceptions out there about what makes gorgeous locks that others will envy. As long as you take care of your hair and avoid heat as much as possible, you should have great hair in no time! We hope these hair tips helped you on your next step to great hair!
