The Essential Essential Oils Guide for Your Home

There are so many reasons that you should keep essential oils in your home, aromatherapy can help on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. With so many options out there, this guide will help you navigate which oils are right for you and what you need.

The essential oils used for aromatherapy are varied, though they all come from natural sources. There are many oils on the market but the ones you want to look for are undiluted, and usually come in small dark blue or brown bottles. Below is a guide to essential oils based on your need, different oils can benefit you in different ways!

First, if you do not have an aromatherapy diffuser, I would recommend buying one. It’s not at all needed to reap the benefits of essential oils but it does do a lot of the work for you. You can find a wide range of aesthetics in any price range. Below is an Amazon’s choice diffuser that has great reviews and is easy to use if you’re new to aromatherapy.

1. If You Need To Relax

Aromatherapy is probably best known for its effectiveness over many emotional problems, from stress or fatigue to depression and menstrual cramps. These oils are best used during body massages, in-room scents, and diffusers, in bathwater, or simply inhaled.

Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the most powerful antidepressant oils. It’s sweet floral fragrance also blends well with other oils such as rose, clary, and citrus if you’re looking to make a mixture. In addition to being an antidepressant, it is also an aphrodisiac and has some sedative properties. Make sure to only use this one in moderation – two or three drops should be sufficient.

Lemon

Lemon is an oil with a very uplifting scent, the fruit itself always makes me feel happy, it can be used for either depression or fatigue. The oil itself comes from the peel of the fruit and therefore keeps the citrus smell you know so well. Lemon is also known as an immune booster especially against a cold or infections.

Lavender

Lavender oil can help you in just about any circumstance if you only want to invest in oil, invest in Lavender. Derived from the flowers itself, it has a familiar and relaxing sent. With string sedative and calming properties, it’s able to help you release tension, help depression, and reduce insomnia.

Sandalwood

If you’re not a fan of the citrus or floral scents, you’ll enjoy sandalwood. More men prefer Sandalwood due to it’s warm, woody scent which comes from the tropical sandalwood trees. It is used for its calming effect and antidepressant properties.

If you’re a beginner and want to start with a basic relaxing pack, I would suggest trying Lavender first, or a pre-made pack that includes ready-made blends which you can put to use the second they arrive.

2. “First Aid” Essential Oils

There are a number of essential oils that are known to have medicinal properties that can be used in a make-your-own first aid kit. These can be used directly on your skin, and also have been known to help with dispelling headaches. As always, Lavender is an oil you can never go wrong with. I never travel without mine.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree oil has been used in makeup and bathroom products for years but is still new to aromatherapy. Tea Tree oil is derived from an Australia tree and has been used by the people there for many years. It can be used to heal wounds such as canker sours, insect bites, blisters, burns, acne, diaper rash, and more. It can also help you fight off colds, sore throats, herpes, and the flu. Didn’t think it can do more than that? This cure-all oil can also soothe sunburns and be used as an insect repellant.

Fennel

Fennel is an herb known most for its cooking uses, however, Fennel can also be used for its calming effects on the digestive system, working wonders with nausea, colic, constipation, or even hiccups! It’s also known to help with bruising, cellulite, and asthma.

As before, if you’re looking for a good first-aid pack to start you off I would use one of Healing Solution’s many blends. It has a good blend of essential oils and it blends them to best suit your needs, whether it be a headache or muscle relief.

3. If You Need A Boost Of Energy

Sometimes we just need something to perk us up – and these oils will do the trick.

Peppermint

What will make you feel more awake and invigorated more than the scent of minty, fresh, crisp Peppermint? Not only will it make you feel more awake, but it will help relieve the tension that you’ve been holding onto, along with many other health benefits including calming your digestive system, and relieve menstrual cramps.

Orange

It’s no surprise that something so full of Vitamin-C will improve your energy. Orange is also known to reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression. Furthermore, studies show that Orange can better your workout performance and promote weight loss! Besides that, don’t you just love the smell of fresh citrus?

Grapefruit

Again, not a surprise to see another citrus on the list! Grapefruit has many similar qualities to Orange in that it may help to promote weight loss. Grapefruit is also a HUGE mood booster, known to help balance your mood, reduce stress, and lower blood sugar. Not to mention it can treat acne…

I hope that this guide has given you a little intro into essential oils and what properties they have. Aromatherapy has gained traction over the past couple of years and is a great alternative to modern-day medicine when it comes to treating minor injuries. Not to mention, the world is a stressful place right now and knowing when and how to use these oils to benefit you can better your mental and physical health. Inhale, exhale.

May you feel better, and smell better, always.
