We have all been quarantined for some time now and i’m sure we all aren’t feeling our very best, physically. Gyms aren’t open and it’s difficult to find different ways of staying active while not being able to go out and do much. And sometimes you get tired of just doing at home exercises. Here are some easy ways to stay active while you’re stuck in quarantine.
I’m not sure about you, but every time I clean or organize my room I feel like I just ran a marathon. And don’t even get my started about how I feel the morning after. Cleaning is actually a great workout and it makes you feel accomplished while making you get active. I find that rearranging my room or different areas in my home gives me a good workout and puts me in a good mental state as well.
It’s always good to have a little change here and there so rearranging and organizing can be very beneficial. You can even use some time between different tasks to do some little exercises if you want to make it more interesting. Staying active is so important, especially while you can’t go out to many places. With all this free time, why not make good use of it and clean your house while feeling good about staying active.
My sister introduced me to these online classes a few weeks after we became quarantined. There are so many online to choose from like yoga, cardio, and strength training. Youtube is an amazing platform to find these videos on and like I said, there are tons of them to choose from. You can do a few a day or even just one, as long as you feel good about the amount of exercise you are getting.
I find online exercise classes to be addicting and love finding new ones to add to my routine. I turn on some music as background noise and make a nice little area in my living room where I can focus. Making this one of my top priorities has been one of the best things I’ve done while being stuck inside. It makes me feel good knowing that I am helping my body stay healthy even during these difficult times.
I can’t even tell you how many laps I’ve taken around my neighborhood since being quarantined. Some days you really just need to get outside and breathe in some fresh air. Taking walks can help with anxiety all while making sure you get daily exercise. You can walk your dog, take a walk with your family, or even just go solo, whatever works for you.
I love listening to music while walking and just clearing my mind for a little. Walking is beneficial to your health and also gives you some time out of the place you’ve been quarantined in. If you feel stressed or feel like you just need to get a little active, try taking a walk or jog around the block or on a bike trail. Make sure to keep your distance from others taking walks as well just to be safe.
I feel like video games are the last thing you think of when you think of being active. I honestly just imagine myself curled up on the couch playing Animal Crossing. Not all video games let you just lay on the couch, instead they are focused on making you be active. Video games for the Wii or Dance Dance Revolution are amazing for getting you up off that comfy spot on the couch.
Breaking out the old video games can be really beneficial and even give you that sense of nostalgia you’ve been craving. I don’t know about you but sometimes you have to throw it back to the old video game days and bust some moves while playing Dance Dance Revolution. Plus, you can take a break from binging all those television shows you’ve been watching and do something physical and mentally engaging. It never hurts to play video games every once in a while, especially if they’re the ones that can make you break a sweat.
Having a little dance party in your room is a great way of staying active and releasing some stress. Turn on your favorite playlist, clear some space in your room, and get to moving! You can do some easy exercises with the music if you really want to break a sweat. I find it fun to let your family in on it as well and have a dance party in the living room.
If you have little siblings this can be a way to get them to tire out before bed so it can be beneficial in more than a few ways. I think this idea is super fun and gives you a chance to involve your family in a small activity that will get everyone moving. Staying active right now is so important an you should try and include as many people as you can.
Walking up and down the stairs a few times can be your way of staying active and thats okay. Any amount of exercise that you feel is keeping you active and feeling good is great. Everyone is different and has different ideas of what it means to stay active so if taking an extra trip up and down the stairs is good enough for you, then thats amazing! Try adding little exercises and movements into your daily routine to keep yourself feeling good.
I find that its easy to include small movements while doing chores. For example, while you’re washing dishes you can do some leg lifts while standing at the sink, or while you’re washing clothes you can lift up the full laundry basket a couple more times than you normally would. These little things can make a huge difference and inserting them into your routine will definitely help to keep you active.
