The Easiest Classes At Bridgewater State University

Core requirements at college that have no bearing on your major can be some of the dumbest classes you will take, but also some of the easiest. I am only taking core requirements this semester and I almost have straight A’s. Some classes are actually pretty difficult, like Philosophy, but I lucked out and got pretty amazing professors. I may only be a second-semester freshman, but these few classes are some of the easiest classes at Bridgewater State University.

1. First-Year Seminar

You have to take two seminars at BSU: one freshman year and one sophomore year. I am currently taking mine, and it is wicked easy. The best part about these seminars is that you can choose whatever topic you want as long as it’s listed. I know people who took a seminar centered around Harry Potter. Another person took a different seminar about whether or not God is real. It’s a “writing intensive class” which basically means you’re going to have to write essays. However, we’re about halfway through the semester and we’re just now working on our first paper. Like I said, I lucked out with my professors, but none of my friends have complained about their seminars. In most, you read novels, but SparkNotes is a savior and you can do just as well. If you bullshitted essays throughout high school and got good grades, you will be more than fine in your seminar.

2. Public Speaking

A lot of people are terrified when they find out that some form of a public speaking course is a requirement. I know I was. Surprisingly, it isn’t as bad as one may think. There are two types of classes that fit this requirement: Intro to Public Speaking and Oral Interpretation. Intro to Public Speaking allows you to write your own speeches and perform it in front of the class. Oral Interpretation is where you read excerpts from books, speeches, etc. and perform those in front of the class. These classes are a lot less scary than presentations in high school because everyone is there just trying to fill a requirement; they don’t really give a damn if you mess up and they aren’t going to laugh at you. I was shocked at how calm I was during my first speech because I am one of those people who is terrified of speaking in front of others. As long as you meet your teacher’s requirements, you’ll pass with no problem making it one of the easiest classes at Bridgewater State University.

3. West Civilization

I know most people aren’t a fan of history courses, but it’s a requirement to take at Bridgewater State University. My West Civ class was by far my favorite class because I had a professor who made it interesting and the material wasn’t terrible to remember. A lot of what was taught was extremely different from history that is taught in most high schools. Make sure you take notes and review them before a test and you will pass that class with no problem. If you can, try to get Professor Hanna. He’s the best.

4. Environmental Bio

Science is by far my least favorite subject. It doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t think it ever will. However, in this class, I’m shocked at how much I understand. It isn’t a crazy science class where you have to memorize a bunch of equations and difficult theories or anything like that. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a study about the environment and things in it so it’s one of the easiest classes at Bridgewater State University. Most of what you learn in the class you can apply to your life as well, which is what I enjoy most about it. The lab that you take with it is also really fun, at least compared to what I’ve done in the past. They aren’t terribly difficult and you spend a lot of time working on a big project, but most of it is done as a group and in class. For a science requirement, this is definitely one of the better options because really, who wants to take physics or chemistry?

5. Math for Elementary Ed

This class is made specifically for education majors so it isn’t required for everyone, but it’s still so easy. You basically relearn everything you learned from first to fifth grade. It’s funny to try and remember everything but when you do, it becomes a breeze. You also get to play with those cool blocks. If that doesn’t make you happy, I don’t know what will. Being an education major isn’t the easiest, but this is definitely an easy class.

It’s a pain in the ass that you can’t just go to college and start taking classes that are for your major, but luckily not every core requirement is dreadful. A lot of them are pretty interesting and there are so many different things you can take to fill the requirement. There’s a high chance you’ll find a core requirement you like and is pretty easy. These are easiest classes at Bridgewater State University I’ve experienced so far, and I know there are plenty more.
