The College Partying Rules Every Freshman Should Follow

College partying is a real experience. They’re one of the mandatory experiences you must have while in college; it’s basically a rite of passage. Eventually, you’ll find yourself in the middle of a huge get together at some point during your freshman year. Even though having fun may be the only thing on your mind, safety should be your priority at all times. By following these rules, you’ll definitely have a good time. Here are the college partying rules you have to follow.

NEVER Go Alone

The NUMBER ONE rule of partying as a freshman, or in general, is to never go alone. This goes for both males and females. Safety should be the main concern when it comes to this rule. Most college parties are after dark, and oftentimes you’ll find yourself walking to the function. You never want to be caught out alone at night. Your hometown may have been safe enough for you to not have any worries when it comes to this, but a college campus is a completely different environment with thousands of people. The last thing your worrying parents need is a call in the middle of the night from someone stating you’ve been hurt.

If We Came Together, We Leave Together

No man gets left behind. Stick with this rule. If you came with four people, you should be leaving with those same four people, especially as freshmen. Keep up with your friends; a group chat is the perfect way to do this in case anyone gets separated from the group. If you can’t find one of your friends, do not leave until that person shows up. In this type of environment, it’s better to be safe than sorry. REMINDER: Always make sure your phone is charged to an acceptable level before going out. This ensures that if anything happens, you could at least have the possibility to call for help.

Be Aware Of Your Surroundings

This tip could honestly just be used in everyday life, but apply it to when partying, too. In any environment, you should always be aware of your surroundings. Check for exits when you go inside in case of an emergency. If anything seems off to you and you feel like you should leave, go ahead and leave. Follow your gut feeling; it’s almost never wrong. Also, make sure you know where you’re going. If possible, get the address of the place beforehand and give the address to a friend. Technology has made this much easier; now, you can just turn on your location and share it with anyone. This is one of the key college partying rules.

Drinking: Where To Start?

There are MANY rules when it comes to drinking at parties. First, if you’re underage, do your best to wait. I know it may be hard, but when the cops show up, (and 7 times out of 10, they will) you’ll be happy you’re sober. If you are drinking, never leave your cup and come back to it. If you have to go somewhere, take your cup or bottle with you. Some places won’t allow you to take your cup to the bathroom to prevent underage drinking; in this case, finish the drink or get a fresh one when you come out.

There are terrible people out there who will take any opportunity to sneak drugs into an unattended cup. Also, watch the person fixing your drink and make sure that they do it in front of you. If someone offers you a sip from their cup, politely decline. Even if it looks as if they’ve been drinking from it, this doesn’t necessarily mean they have. And last but not least, know your limit. No one wants to have to babysit their friend and carry them back to the dorm because they got too drunk and can’t put one foot in front of the other. If you know your drinking limit is 3 beers, have 2 and call it a night. At least try to drink some water throughout the night to help you stay sober and possibly prevent a hangover.

Think Smart

You got into college by using your brain; continue using it while you’re there. Most of these rules are just basic common sense. Don’t go to a party and act crazy because you finally have a little bit of freedom. You don’t want to be known as that freshman who broke their arm falling off a table after dancing on it like a maniac. Just think logically and you should be fine. These rules aren’t meant to scare you. They’re meant to keep you safe. Remember, class starts at 8 a.m. on Monday. Definitely consider following this college partying rules.
