The Best TV Shows You Should Watch This Season

There are so many entertaining TV shows out there. But when it comes to a deeper meaning, questioning our reality and making the observer think, there are few shows that can do just that. And yes, I know that ”Game of Thrones” is the masterpiece of the century, but let’s have a look at some other interesting TV shows that might be able to reset your brain, challenge the way you think and bend your reality, just a little bit. Some of them are documentaries and others are just beautiful sci-fi stories that will shake the way you look at things. Here are some of my personal favorites!

Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

This exceptional Netflix show is studying one of the most mind-blowing criminal cases in history: the Ted Bundy one. Recently, Netflix came out with a movie about Ted Bundy’s life, starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins, but it does not manage to cover all the twisted turns that you are able to see if you watch the actual documentary.

It’s really interesting to examine the whole case and it definitely makes you question the justice system in the States, as well as human nature. It begs the question: how is it possible that someone has an absolute lack of empathy for other humans? It’s also fascinating to see how a single man managed to manipulate so many people and also to see all of the other aspects of the case. Ted Bundy confessed that he committed 30 brutal crimes in 7 different states. The true number of victims is unknown and possibly higher.

The OA

This is another mind-blowing Netflix TV show and by far my favorite amongst the bunch. ”The OA”  tells the story of a girl who returns to her home town after vanishing for seven years. She has some unearthly abilities and decides to recruit five strangers who are going to help her with a secret mission. The show has two seasons and one more on the way. Each new episode is very different and you don’t really know what to expect from it.

This piece of art manages to question the reality we live in, the abilities of our own will, and the strength of our minds. It brings to the surface some of the most essential questions we’ve  all asked ourselves at least once in our lifetime: ”Who are we?”, ”What did we come here for?” and “What happens after death?”, along with many others. I definitely recommend watching it, if you consider yourself a thinker or a seeker of some kind!

Leaving Neverland

Another documentary, this time courtesy of HBO. This production follows the stories of two men: Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who allege they were sexually abused as children by the singer Michael Jackson. This documentary is probably one of the most scandalous productions out there. It exposes numerous questions and problems tied to our society.

Is it possible that such an influential, cherished, and respected person like Michael Jackson was capable of such a thing? Was he really abusing little children while no one noticed? Even the parents? Or according to some speculations, are these men only coming out and saying all of this (10 years after his death) in order to profit from it? There are many questions, but I will leave the answers to you. Watch it and decide for yourself what you want to believe!

Black Mirror

This is another masterpiece from Netflix. It challenges traditional thinking and the way we see the modern world we live in. Each episode is unique and features its own cast. The show taps into societal issues and it does so in a very artistic way. It often depicts technology as a tool that dehumanizes us – by demonstrating the ways we distance ourselves from our true nature and emotions.

This sci-fi anthology series explores a twisted, high-tech near-future experience where humanity’s greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide. It shows us a wild, but also scary upcoming reality which is actually quite possible – considering the direction we have taken on as a collective. ”Black Mirror” is definitely one of these shows that takes your mind on a journey!

Sense 8

This phenomenal piece from Netflix is one of the most provocative and mind-bending shows I’ve ever watched. It follows the story of eight complete strangers from different parts of the world, who suddenly find their consciousness being connected by a series of events. After that, their lives are not the same. Their thoughts and minds are connected and they are able to experience the reality of the others, even though they are miles apart.

The stars of the show come from across the globe, with different backgrounds, nationalities, and sexual orientations; this shows the diversity of our world in such a beautiful way. The filming of the show takes place in various locations, like Mumbai, London, Reykjavik, Nairobi, Mexico city, etc. This exceptional piece presents the idea of the connection between all of us and the strength that comes from it. I discovered many other concepts that gave me some food for thought, but you can watch it and see for yourself!
