Conducting research will let you know what actions you need to take in order to make that dream a reality. Even if you are unsure of what your dream job is, the internet is your best friend to find out. Look and see what kind of people work this job, do they like it, what does it require, etc.
If you have selected and narrowed down what your dream job would be, then you are already halfway there. Reaching your dream job can take a while so it is about the journey. The best thing to make the whole process painless is to network with like-minded folks who are looking into working in the same field as you. Networking can lead you into certain jobs, but it also helps build your morale. You can find a buddy to build your dreams with, which is awesome. You both are working towards a common goal so that will definitely build a bond between you.
A lot of people think about money when it comes to success, which is more than understandable. Most of us believe if we had more money, then our lives would be nearly perfect. You will be able to invest, buy more stuff, get whatever they want, etc. But is that really the key to happiness? You ever purchased something that you thought you would love and then after a while, it loses its appeal? This could be due to instant gratification. That is something that a lot of us enjoy, but in excess, it could lead to you chasing a lifestyle that is not meant for you. Don’t get me wrong, I would love a few thousand in my pocket, but I would have to work towards that, which means if I am not working at a job that I love then is it truly worth it? Think about this and figure out what you find success to be. Successful does not equal tons of money most of the time, it is about working a job that fulfills you on an emotional and mental level.
Most good jobs require some type of training or education. Sometimes it can cost a pretty penny, but do not let that discourage you from getting the life you want. Your dream job will require effort, and hard work on your part, please don’t underestimate that. What is good is always worth working hard for. Sometimes that means working more hours at your current job or studying for an extra hour for that test. Just keep your eye on the prize, because all of that work will eventually get you to your end goal.
Passionate about something that you would love to turn into a career? Try to see what you can do to make that happen. If you are a creative person that loves painting, why not sell some of your work on Etsy as a side hustle. It can provide you some extra cash flow while honing your skills.
Sometimes society, your family, and other folks with good intentions can encourage or influence you to decide on what you want to do as a career. For that reason, you should be gentle with your self and understand that it’s okay to change your career path. Take some pressure off yourself, because you do not have to know what you want to do with the rest of your life at 18. It is great to have an idea, but it doesn’t have to be set in stone.
You have to live your life, so you should do your best to live for you. This may seem selfish to some, but you only have one life, so you shouldn’t waste is based on what other people want for you. You have to make your own decision for your future. Your family members make place big dreams in your future because they want great things for you. Your family and loved ones have good intentions, but at the end of the day, nobody knows what you want more other than yourself.
Reaching your dream job takes a lot of work. When you work hard, you must play hard too. You need to reward and take care of yourself, so you can continue on the path that you have set for yourself. This can be different for everybody, so this may mean that you have a big vacation once a year. Or maybe you go out with your friends every other weekend to let your hair down and party. No matter what it is, take time for you and take care of you. Working too hard can lead to burnout and losing sight of the vision you had for yourself.
