A date can be a scary, nerve-wracking thing. Especially if it’s your first date, whether it be in Texas or anywhere else. However, to ace that first date, there are a few special things you can do that only apply in the Lone Star State. Here are a few of them.
One of the best things about having family in Texas is there’s bound to be someone who has a recipe for a classic southern dish, whether it be Texan or Mexican. Ask them about it, and cook for your date. Showing your date that you’re going the extra mile by cooking for them will no doubt impress them, just as well as the fact that you can cook, period. Enchiladas, chicken-fried steak, cornbread, chili, (My grandmother actually has a recipe for white chili that’s a family favorite), Tex-Mex; the possibilities are endless concerning Texas dishes.
The personalized dish can also be used as a reserve tool for future dates. It may expensive and time-consuming buying and preparing the ingredients necessary for the meal, but it can be considered a long-term investment if you ace the date. Or, if you have no family recipes, do the complete opposite. Take your date to some Texas-based restaurant, and show your date what they have to offer. One of the best ways to make a good impression on someone is food.
There are many beautiful spots to have a first date in Texas. A rooftop restaurant in Austin, the San Antonio River Walk, the Wanna-Wanna Beach Bar & Grill on South Padre Island. Every city in Texas has a spot that would be perfect for a first date. It will be up to you to find that spot in whatever city you’re in, and determine whether or not your date would like. The city itself is a resource you can use to impress your date. And like the custom meal I mentioned earlier, the first date in a memorable Texan city spot can be used again later down the line on anniversaries and such.
While on any first date you should dress appropriately depending on the circumstance, and to wow your date, in Texas, there are a few items you can wear considering the state. I’m not saying you should start wearing ten-gallon hats and spurs, but I wouldn’t discount a good bolo tie or cowboy boots. Texas has its own style, and if your date is from out of state, you could capitalize on that fact and impress them. Just remember not to go too far, or become stereotypical. Well, you could go stereotypical as a joke, but that is risky gamble to take.
Touching back on the first category, if you have a lot of member in your family, they are a living repository of ideas for a first date, as well as stories to tell during said date. If you hear all your family’s ideas for a first date, but come up with one on your own, you will still have plenty of things to talk about while watching the sunset, feeding the ducks, or waiting for your server to deliver your food. Not just family members, but use some of your own stories as well. Paint pictures for your date. You should have one or two tantalizing tales to use. They don’t even have to relate to Texas. Just make sure you entertain your date, that’s the most important thing.
