The Best Skincare Brands For Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is an absolute nightmare. Whether it’s dry, excessively oily, or so sensitive that everything you put on it burns, finding good skincare brands that actually help your skin is an incredibly important task, especially seeing as doctor-prescribed steroids can in my experience often harm your skin long-term even if they help clear things up short-term. I, for one, feel incredibly self-conscious when I’m having a flare-up. Most of the time I can’t even wear make-up over it, which makes me feel even worse. I’ve suffered through all of it, and these are the skincare brands that I’ve found help calm my skin back down to the point where I don’t want to claw my entire face off!

1. Simple

This is my absolute skincare saviour. It’s relatively inexpensive depending on the product you get, especially if you get it on sale or in conjunction with another product under an offer, and I have never broken out from using a Simple product before. Because it has no perfumes in any of its products, from cleansers to toners to moisturisers, there is no risk of irritation whatever you use. My personal favourite products to use are the Purifying Cleansing Lotion, the Micellar Cleansing Water, and the Regeneration Age-Resisting Eye Cream, which I recently started using and really like so far. They also recently released some face masks inspired by K-Beauty, and they leave my face feeling so lovely. One downside though is because of its gentleness, you will need to use a little more product than usual to remove heavy make-up, but that isn’t really a problem for me. This is one of the best skincare brands!

2. Aveeno

I used E45 for months before I realised it wasn’t really doing anything for me and decided to grit my teeth and spend the extra pounds on Aveeno, (hey, I’m a recent graduate, okay? We’re all struggling here) and I am so glad I did. The first time I used their Skin Relief Nourishing Lotion I could feel the driest parts of my face and neck softening almost within seconds. It’s brilliant as an all-over body moisturiser too because it locks in moisture and therefore lasts for the whole day – goodbye, dry elbows! You really only need a small fingertip’s-worth of product for it to work too, so it does work out at good value for money in the end. I haven’t tried the other products in the Aveeno range yet, but am definitely happy I decided to opt for it because it’s now my go-to dry skin staple!

3. Avene

This is pricier than the Simple range, but I’m giving them an honourable mention because a couple of months ago I had one of the worst dry skin flare-ups of my life and everything hurt. I had run out of Simple products and read about this online so I decided to order their Sensitive Skin Saviour kit on a whim. The kit consists of three travels-size products; a moisturiser, a facial spray, and a cleanser for £19.99. Within minutes of using the cleanser my skin felt instantly cooler. The spray helped minimise the redness on my face and the moisturiser was thick but sank into my face almost instantly. For me, the kit is too intensive for every use and would make me break out, but for emergency flare-ups I cannot recommend it enough!

4. La Roche-Posay

This brand gets an honourable mention because I use their Serozinc spray after my cleanser and I really find it helps to help everything set, makes my skin smoother to put make-up on, and generally makes me feel refreshed and ready for the day. I love products that do more than just remove make-up or make your face wet without actually doing anything (trust me, I’ve tried a lot of these), and this one gives me a nice base for the day. Also good for top-ups during the day if you feel a little flushed (thank you, overzealous office heating).
