The Nintendo Switch is the latest Nintendo console which is full of games you and your entire family can enjoy. After a while though, the same games can get old, and leave you wanting something new. Lucky for you, I created a list of the best-hidden gems of the Nintendo Switch! I would highly suggest you try every single video game on this list.
Music makes the world go round, but in this game, you need to use music to literally save the world. You take the role of the bard, who uses his singing voice to solve puzzles and defeat enemies while trying to find the pieces to the earth song. You can control the singing voice with your analog stick, which I found myself aimlessly freestyle humming for a couple of minutes. This game is very colorful and bright and feels very dream-like, with no true violence making it a fun game even the kids can play!
This game was originally created for the Nintendo Wii, and actually got plenty of negative reviews for the controls making the game borderline unplayable. However, the re-release for the Nintendo Switch figures out how to make the controls work, and offer a pretty fun game that you could easily sink dozens of hours into. You play a monkey in a ball, and roll yourself through very challenging puzzles to reach the goal, what isn’t there to love?? Super Monkey Ball will always be a childhood classic, so if you loved it when you were a kid, you will love it even more as an adult.
At first glance, Unbox may seem like a weird game where you control a box, and that is exactly what it is. This physics platformer is one of the most unique stories that you will find on the Switch, which is saying something. Control your box and make it through tons of puzzles to reach the end, interacting with other boxes and just not taking yourself too seriously!
VVVVVV is a 2D scroller with one simple gimmick, whenever you press A you reverse gravity, leaving you to stand on the ceiling. Press A again and you will go back to the floor. As simple as it sounds, this game has a variety of puzzles and challenges throughout the open map to easily waste hours on. Once you beat the game, you can try to get 100% or even try some custom levels created by people who love the game just as much as me. This would be my main suggestion for anyone looking for a cheap, easy to learn but challenging puzzle game.
P.S. I used to try to speedrun this game, so if you are a fan of speedrunning, you should check this one out.
This unique golf game is unpredictable, absurd, and hilarious. Each level is a surprising rendition of golf, but you never know just what you might get. On one level you may end up controlling a car, a couch, a cheeseburger, or any of the random things littered throughout the game. With tons of new stuff to discover and play through, this game will constantly be fresh no matter how much you play it.
Tetris 99 is Tetris breaking into the royale style of games. You face 98 other Tetris players, and play to win. You can sabotage other players, but make sure to keep an eye on your own board because the gameplay is fast. If you are like me, you will have a period where you binge this game nonstop trying to get your first victory royale, and when you do, you will unlock a special game mode where you can only play other Tetris 99 winners. Not to mention it is free, so why have you not played this one yet?
You can usually find this game for just a couple bucks, and it is definitely worth it. This is a comedic role-playing game, which lets you explore an old western town and interact with its citizens. There are plenty of jokes and gags hidden throughout the world, I even got lost just exploring and not paying attention to the main story. Still, even for having some low-quality graphics in terms of modern gaming, it still looks amazing and is just as fun to play!
In what can officially be called the weirdest game on this list, Catherine: Full Body is a doozy of a story. Our hero has a long time girlfriend, however, he also has an affair with another enchanting seductress. He tries to sleep it off but starts to have crazy dreams where he literally must climb for his life. The storyline will keep you wondering what will happen next, and the gameplay will make you forget the kind of game your playing, only to throw it back into your face. In a way, this game really makes sense once you play it, so just do it already!
Finally, ending the list off with one of the spookiest games the Switch has to offer. You control a tiny monster dawned in a raincoat, and must squeeze your way through small, dark places while avoiding the spooky bad guys which are scattered throughout the entire game waiting to kill you. No real jump scares are in this game, just a general feeling of suspense and fright, which will both make you cover your eyes in terror, but also eyes glued to the screen to see what will happen next.
