The Best Fashion Instagrams To Follow

Many turn to Instagram for fashion inspiration, employing the explore page to find outfit ideas for specific occasions or ways to style particular items. However, social media users tend to crowd around the same fashion Instagrams. The likes of Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid have millions of followers and even celebrities without a passion for fashion gain thousands of views.

Celebrities often direct trends and are backed by knowledgeable designers, but only following the most popular accounts neglects other talented creators. Here are some of the best fashion Instagrams to follow if you want to up your style game.

Kelly Augustine (@kellyaugustine)

If you gravitate toward neons, gowns rippling with drapery, animal print and bold blazers, Kelly Augustine’s Instagram is the place for you. A fashion and celebrity stylist, Augustine resides in New York City and has had her work featured in Vogue, The New York Times and Vanity Fair. According to Augustine’s website, she also has “actively pushed for inclusion within the fashion and lifestyle spaces” and uses her platform to “expand the narrow-mindedness of society’s beauty standards.”

In a post from November 2021, Augustine poses in an NYC subway, wearing a cropped leather jacket, leopard print crop top and drawstring leather pants. She pairs the ensemble with Valentino black platform boots that have gold studs. In a later post from April 2022, she wears a neon chartreuse maxi dress with lilac platform heels, turning back to the camera as wind brushes her hair.

Sharing facts about her, Augustine revealed to her followers that she has been a content creator for over a decade, would skip parties to play SIMS in her dorm as a college student and has a “very, very goofy” side.

Madeline Harper Fass (@mfass)

If you’re searching for fashion Instagrams cataloguing haute couture shows and NYC style, give Madeline Fass a follow. A market editor for Vogue, Fass’ style follows the latest high-fashion trends yet stays grounded with timeless staples.

In a piece written for Vogue, Fass expressed how working in the magazine’s accessories department helped her become familiar with footwear styles. She added that a “classic penny loafer was always on hand in a range of sizes in case stylists needed a pair or two for upcoming shoots.” Seeing her colleagues also wearing loafers inspired her to try the staple herself, and she now incorporates the slip-on shoe into many of her outfits. In a post from April 2021, for example, she shows of a pair of horsebit loafers, pairing the shoe with green and orange tie die socks.

Caleb Mark Felix (@calebmarkfelix)

Caleb Felix’s style combines classic, preppy button-downs and collared shirts with more casual elements such as graphic t-shirts and seashell necklaces. A Converse All Star, Felix participated in the 2020 Converse Pride campaign, “More Color, More Pride,” where he stressed the importance of embracing “everything of each other” and not being selective about what we love.

In a later interview with Popsugar, the creator shared how they have found their style “all over the place, from casual, baggy ‘fits to well-fitted garments” and added that they are “growing fonder of stripes and different browns.” This mesh of aesthetics reveals itself in one of Felix’s posts from December 2020. He sports a fitted, brown blazer; white button-down; rolled-up black jeans and combat boots.

Natasha Ndlovu (@natashandlovu)

A London-based model, blogger and photographer, Natasha Ndlovu has an elegant, minimalistic style. With outfits comprised of maxi skirts, cream blazers and Chanel bags, her Instagram exudes luxury. For a date night look or dinner with friends, recreate Ndlovu’s fall outfit from October 2021–a beige, oversized suit paired with gray mules. When following Ndlovu’s fashion, try to stick to browns, white and black–the colors Ndlovu wears most often. Throwing in an occasional denim item, however, still fits her aesthetic.

On Ndlovu’s website, she shares that she has a “BA in Visual Arts from the University of British Columbia,” is “fluent in English, Ndebele, Spanish and French” and is currently learning Russian. She also provides outfit ideas on her blog and started a Youtube channel at the beginning of 2022.

Vanessa Hong (@vanessahong)

Vanessa Hong often poses at museum galleries, standing next to sculptures from the Met and Museo Jumex. And honestly, her outfits could be works of art themselves. Hong often grounds her outfits with neutral colors but adds a geometric print to create more dimension. To recreate her November 2021 elevator mirror selfie, pair an indigo blazer and sweater with khakis and a plastic chain necklace.

Oh, and she’s a foodie too. She’ll often share restaurant orders and will sometimes post videos of how she makes her own recipes.

Chelsey Boll (@chelseyboll)

Chelsey Boll’s website describes her transition from a model to photographer: “she was discovered while studying visual art in an enriched arts program and taught herself photography online and through her experiences on set.” Because of this background, she has a “distinct personal connection to the subjects [she photographs].”

Frequent features on Boll’s Instagram include untraditional pairings (like fishnets riding above black jeans and outfits with contrasting patterns), blazers and leather jackets. They also have advocated for Borderline Personality Disorder awareness and have shared their own difficulty getting treatment for the mental illness.

Aimee Kelly (@byaimeekelly)

Content creator Aimee Kelly describes herself as “NYC’s walking starburst” in her Instagram bio, and we couldn’t agree more. If the neutral-toned fashion instagrams of minimalism advocates bore you, follow Aimee Kelly for a splash of color. Some staples in Kelly’s wardrobe include vibrant suits, silk button-downs, platform heels and monochromatic outfits. The cover image of a June 2022 reel, for example, shows Kelly wearing a dark orange scarf, orange dress, layered necklaces, while holding an orange clutch with a Yankees logo. Another bonus of following Kelly’s Instagram is the flood of outfit ideas she posts for specific occasions (date nights, office days or picnics).

On her website, Kelly shares that she is Afro-Latina, enjoys thrift-shopping and singing and has had “a passion for fashion for as long as she can remember.” Running an online clothing boutique, which can be found on her website, “has been a dream of [Kelly’s] for over 10 years.”
