Before we know it, fall will be here, bringing crisp weather and pumpkin spice lattes along with it. If you love fall, miss home, or just want another excuse to decorate, decorating your room for fall brings a warm and fuzzy atmosphere to your dorm room. Here are some ideas for dorm decor for the fall season.
The first fall must-have in any dorm room has to be string lights! String lights can make your room feel so cozy. They also brighten your room and add a touch of personalization that makes your room more inviting. Hanging lights are a staple dorm room accessory throughout the entire year, but something about string lights in the fall is just so festive. You can also switch it up and get festive or colored lights! You can get lights that have fall leaves on them, pumpkin lights, multicolored lights, and more.
You can never have enough pillows. Get some festive pillows or warm-colored pillows like orange or red! Nothing makes you feel more at home and like getting into bed with a cup of tea more than some pillows you can get comfy with. Plus, they’re a decoration that you can have fun with. Choose pillows that are festive or funny, maybe one with a quirky saying on it. Pillows can very easily liven up a room if you choose ones that you like!
If you’re at college far from home and missing traditional fall events with your family, not to worry. First, you’ll be home soon enough! Second, why don’t you print out photos of your family and friends, your favorite moments or adventures, and make a picture wall to commemorate them? Fall is a time when everyone is together and while it might seem your next school break is far away; a picture wall will remind you of the ones you love and make you happy until you see them again. Plus, you can keep this wall up year-round, and you can add or rotate photos depending on the season!
What says fall more than pumpkins? There are many ways you can incorporate pumpkins into your room. You can get miniature pumpkins, pumpkin pillows, pumpkin lights, pumpkin lanterns, the possibilities are endless! Plus, pumpkins will make you feel like it’s truly fall, and add to the warm and cozy atmosphere in your room. (Just don’t get a real pumpkin. Bugs, rot, smell, need I say more?)
Whether you want floral or citrus scents year-round, you can also use an essential oil diffusor to make your room smell of classic fall scents: cinnamon, a pumpkin late, vanilla, apple, etc. You can choose your favorite fall scent, put a few drops in your diffusor, and your whole room will smell like fall. An essential oil diffusor is something that you can use year-round as well, making it a worthy investment.
Nothing says cozy like a good throw blanket. It’s going to start getting cold anyway, so a throw blanket is the perfect new purchase. You can also get a weighted or heated blanket, now that the weather is getting colder. It’s all up to you! Colorful throw blankets can be fun, especially when you get a fun color. Now that it’s fall, maybe get an orange or red throw blanket, which will brighten up your room, and make it feel warmer and lighter.
How else are you going to make all your favorite fall drinks? No matter what school you go to, the dining hall just doesn’t cut it when it comes to seasonal drinks. A Keurig, or some sort of coffee maker, will provide you with the ability to make your favorite seasonal drinks, even year-round! A Keurig is definitely a pricier investment, but it is something that you can use every day and throughout the year.
Tapestries are fun and they can add a whole new vibe to your room! You can choose a tapestry that is warmer in colors and gives you a sense of fall for you to hang up in your room. Tapestries work well with the string lights and make your room feel more like a home away from home. There are also so many tapestries out there so you can find one that you like just for you, and in this way, you can personalize your room even further. Tapestries are a good investment because they are extremely durable, and you can use them all four years you’re at school.
How else are you going to watch Halloween movies? A projector is a super fun idea if you have the wall space! You can’t always be watching television and movies on your laptop, and in many dorms, students don’t have a television. Therefore, a projector is a good idea! Plus, this one is another year-round investment, perfect for movie nights. A projector is also small and doesn’t take up much space, making it easy to store when you’re not using it.
The best way to make your room feel like it’s Halloween or Thanksgiving is to decorate! There are super cute decorations out there that won’t make you feel like you went overboard. A dorm is a small space so it’s important that you optimize that space for the best decorations. Also, it’s important to give your roommate some space, make sure you ask them before putting up decorations because walking into a room full of pumpkins might be a bit overwhelming at first! Christmas on the other hand… you should go all out.
Fall is the first time you get to decorate your room with decorations, sure you decorated when you first got there but now it’s part of the season and you can decorate however you want! You can re-use these decorations every year so make sure that you’re getting ones that you like! So go on, decorate, get comfy, and settle in for a night of apple cider and Halloweentown.
