The Best College Orientation Themes You Have To See

College orientation themes are put in place to help direct and guide all of the new students getting ready to come on campus. Usually they are your basic, educational, mapped out tours of the school. Lately, certain campuses have been trying to spice things up a little bit to more or less stand out and appeal to the young crowds more. We put together a few ideas that colleges have used and you should totally check them out!

1. Boot Camp 101

Don’t worry about those words Boot Camp. Fortunately, this was only meant for the stricter, more military academy campuses. These poor freshmen do NOT have it easy if their orientation says boot camp. They do grueling obstacles and activites, but some of them are actually pretty funny. The older students harass them, they’re communication to the outside world is cut off, and they are purposely being broken in mentally, emotionally, and physically. Just when all of these newbies, or “plebes” as they are called, are just about done and think they are in the clear…. HA. They have to do a 12-mile hike from the officer’s point of choice back to the base. And you think surviving your college orientation theme was tough?

2. Summer Camp

This one sounds a lot better to us, too. Apparently, the usual college orientation themes stray extremely far from anything academic or education-related. A lot of campuses focus on team-building skills or something that is going to make these new students feel comfortable being themselves and trying to figure out their paths in life. The Summer Camp theme is definitely one of the best ones. It’s an orientation filled with outdoor games and obstacles. Some of which you probably remember from your childhood. For example, spinning around with your forehead down on a bat and then trying to walk a relay race straight after is pretty hilarious. See? College isn’t all bad!

3.  Academic Decathlon

College orientation themes are still on the brink of going above and beyond, but this one seems a lot more educationally relevant. When we first looked at it, we thought “okay they all should probably be like this” and while it wasn’t what we thought it was, we weren’t wrong! The Academic Decathlon theme is pretty…well…hilarious! It’s kind of what it sounds like, a decathlon testing the new students’ knowledge with ridiculous questions. However, the topics are ranging from one night stands to bad drunk stories to that one time you go arrested. You would be surprised what you find out about all of these new people and how funny your new friends are.

4. Costume Orientation

We’re not kidding. We managed to find a story about a couple of campuses that decided their college orientation themes just were not making the cut. They were too boring. So, before all the freshmen gathered for the new academic year in search of their path in life, it was required that they dress up. No, not professionally like a good student, but in the most ridiculous costumes they could think of. The best part about college is that everyone is an adult for the most part, so there are really no restrictions or sensory. Everybody takes full advantage of this opportunity and the parade of characters is so entertaining.

Now that we gave you a little idea at how college orientation themes are developing, maybe you’ll reconsider going to yours! It’s a great way to unwind and meet a lot of great, new people. Don’t be a hermit and get out there! It’s time to live a little.
