The Best 10 Minute Makeup Routine Before Class

Waking up for class is hard no matter what time it is. Nothing is worse than having a long routine that forces you to wake up way earlier than you really want to. Thankfully, simplifying your makeup routine can help you free up some time in the mornings. This routine is guaranteed to help you feel your best and won’t take up tons of time either.

1. Prep your skin

After washing your face, you need to make sure your skin will be a nice even base for your makeup. I always start out by moisturizing my skin. I would highly recommend finding a moisturizer, which includes sunscreen. This combines two steps into one and protects your skin all day. Proper skin protection is always necessary. SPF is essential, especially when you’ll be outside walking from class to class and all over campus. Taking the time to put on sunscreen will be more than worthwhile in the long run.

2. BB Cream

BB cream will be your best friend when you’re in a hurry. It evens out your skin and blurs imperfections. However, it isn’t too heavy or full coverage for everyday use. Applying a regular foundation can be time-consuming and tedious. However, BB cream is light and easy to apply. I recommend using a wet sponge or beauty blender in order to get a flawless and even look. If you want a more full coverage look, you can easily switch out BB cream for a foundation in your routine. You just might have to allow more time in the mornings for your makeup.

3. Powder

Powder helps ensure that your BB cream will stay in place all day, without sliding around or rubbing off. If you feel like you need more coverage, you can use a colored powder that matches your skin tone. Or if you’re okay with the coverage from the BB cream, you can just use a translucent powder to set your makeup in place. Either type of powder will prevent you from having to worry about your makeup coming off throughout the day.

4. Highlight

This might seem a little unnecessary for an everyday look. But, this extra step takes about 30 seconds and makes a world of difference. Highlight will make you look more awake and alert after all those long nights of studying and doing homework. I recommend applying it to the inner corners of your eyes, your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. There are so many options for highlights available now. However, my personal favorite is the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlight in Opal, which can be purchased at Sephora. It gives an amazing glow that can be seen from miles away and will ensure you’ll get compliments all day long.

5. Eye shadow

This is a completely optional step and again might seem like too much for a day at school. But, it helps me tie together my look. I simply take one color and swipe it all over my lid with a flat shader brush. I tend to go for a light pink or tan color. Applying eye shadow helps to cancel out any uneven colors on your eyelids. Purchasing an eye shadow pallete can be a great investment. Palletes full of neutral colors allow you to switch up your looks. They can also become a staple when putting together eye shadow looks for more special events. Palletes can be extremely versatile and allow you to get the most for your money. Brands like Urban Decay make really great palletes with just neutral colors, such as the Urban Decay Naked Basics pallete.

6. Setting Spray

This is another simple step that takes about 30 seconds but makes all the difference in the world. I use setting spray after I have applied all my dry products, like powder, highlight, and eyeshadow. It’s important to use it before using wet products, like mascara, because it can smudge it and ruin your look. I mist the setting spray all over my face and use about 3-4 mists. I completely recommend the NYX Setting Spray. It is super affordable and can be found at most drugstores. It also comes in matte and dewy finishes, so you can pick whatever you prefer. This step is crucial to my morning routine. It ensures that my makeup stays on throughout my busy days spent on campus.

7. Mascara

This is my favorite part of the whole getting ready process. If you have extra time in the morning, curling your eyelashes will help make your eyes look bigger and help your lashes stand out more. However, if you’re in a rush, you can go straight into the mascara. I use black mascara and apply one coat at a time and allow at least 20 seconds for it to dry in between coats. The L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara is a great option if you’re on a budget. It is a tried and true product that really lengthens and separates lashes.

8. Lip Products

The final step is your lips. I like to use Chapstick or Burt’s Bees lip balm if I’m just going for a simple and everyday look. However, if I want to look more put together, I’ll add a lip gloss on top. It only takes a few seconds, but can really step up your makeup. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty has been all the rage lately and for good reason. My favorite product from her line has to be her Gloss Bomb. I use the color Fenty Glow, which is described as a shimmering rose nude. It is perfect for everyday looks. The gloss also comes in a clear shade a more pink one. This gloss combined with highlights will give you an amazing glow.

Makeup routines are so versatile and come in many different forms. This is one simple one that will get you out the door quickly, while still looking and feeling your best. Feel free to leave your favorite school makeup routine in the comments down below!
