The ’70s Are Back In Fashion And I Love It

The ’70s are back and rolling in updated silhouettes, patterns, and colorways and I’m absolutely loving it. There’s something about the ’70s style that feels so liberating, so fun, and so necessary in our uncertain political climate these days. My favorite looks can be found in five main fashion categories that all fashionistas can take note on:

1. Platform Shoes

One of my favorite ’70s fashion trends are platform shoes and because I’m on the shorter side I’m more than thrilled than platforms are the shoes of the season. The wooden platforms are my favorite, especially in the summer as they pair perfectly with high-waisted jeans or shorts (which is another ’70s fashion trend).

The best summer outfit to wear right now that pays homage to its ’70s roots are platform shoes, flare jeans, and a white ruffled blouse. This style was favored by women (and men!) in the ’70s and with the heat waves, we’ve been experiencing across the country this go-to look couldn’t be better.

2. Wide and Flare Leg Jeans

Say it louder for the people in the back!! These jeans are the absolute MUST -have fashion jeans this season. They pair well with platform shoes, sandals, and platform booties which are their ’70s fashion sisters.

These jeans complement curvy figures especially well as they elongate the legs and look AH-mazing on. You can dress them up with black leather boots and a black strappy tank or wear them in the day-time with a fisherman’s cap and white sleeveless tank.

Pro-tip: You could also pair them with a white tank or ruffled blouse and platform shoes for an extra that’s so ’70s look.

3. Corduroy

Christian Dior praises the essence of corduroy and the youth it encapsulates in The Little Dictionary of Fashion for good reason. This is one of my all-time favorite material for how well it hugs the body, how soft it feels, and how damn cool it looks.

This season the most popular fashion color of corduroy is a camel tone that can be seen in stores everywhere in pant styles, jackets, skirts, shorts, and more. It’s truly a corduroy craze out there and I can’t get enough of it.

This is the perfect style to update your fall/winter wardrobe by adding a pair of corduroy wide-leg pants to complement your leather booties or platform sneakers. Pair it with a turtleneck for a touch of extra cool.

4. Midi Length Skirts

A summer style that has taken over the world thanks to ’70s fashion is the midi skirt and we’re thriving in a market chock full of them. This style is perfect to wear on a hot summer day, to work, or going out on the weekend with friends.

I love the floral and ditsy prints we’re seeing in midi skirts, and you can purchase them at retailers from Free People and Reformation to Forever 21 and online mega-retailer Shein. Everyone has captured this trend and for good reason, it’s comfy and looks good on every figure! The femininity of the folds of the skirt combined with a summery floral and paired with a simple white tee is a go-to look for every girl this summer.

5. Wrap Dresses

We can all thank the ’70s for this fashion trend and it has us thriving ladies! This one below is from Free People, but can be seen in every major department store and online right now. Wrap dresses are the ultimate wardrobe staple because once again, they flatter every shape and size and have effortless femininity to them.

In fashion school at a networking event, someone once asked a female CEO of a major wholesaler what to wear during an interview, and she recommended a wrap dress which she claimed was professional, feminine, and always flattering. Who can disagree? A wrap dress is easy to wear, comes in a variety of pretty solid colors and prints, and is unmistakably classic.

We can thank the ’70s fashion trends for giving us classics that have been updated by some of our favorite brands and are here to say.
