The 5 Best Dog Parks In Houston For Your Pups

It’s a fact that Millennials are having kids and buying houses later in life. This often means that our pets are our babies and our homes are our apartments, well into our 20’s and 30’s. There’s nothing wrong with this lifestyle, but this is not always the ideal combo for a dog (unless you have an affinity for chewed up couches and shoes). To avoid this, here are the 5 best dog parks in Houston, so you can get those pups the well-needed exercise they deserve.

Levy Park

Located in the Greenway area, this park recently underwent a huge renovation, and now, in addition to a dog park, features a performance pavilion, a playground, an activity lawn where they host free yoga and Zumba classes, and a community garden. The dog park has a small and large dog area, a double gate for safety, and water features. It’s a perfect place to people watch while your pup runs around making friends! Who doesn’t love some good dog parks in Houston?

Danny Jackson Family Bark Park

This park, located off Westpark near 610, is always busy, but it’s easy to see why. The park is huge, so there’s plenty of space for your pup to run around. The large dog area even features a pond where you’ll often see dogs jumping in to catch a ball. Don’t worry about the water and mud though, the park has two dog washing stations to clean up before you let your pup into your car! You should really visit all of the dog parks in Houston.

Ervan Chew Park

Ervan Chew was the first park in Houston to allow dogs to run leash-free, and for this, it gets a shout out. Located in the Montrose area, Ervan Chew Park is your quintessential neighborhood dog park. Take your pup here to enjoy the trees and the occasional mud puddle. There are plenty of shaded places to sit while they play, and water stations for when they get thirsty.

Johnny Steele Dog Park

Due to Hurricane Harvey, Johnny Steele Dog Park is closed for renovations and is set to open back up in Summer 2018, but this park is just too cool not to mention (Patience is a virtue, people!). The 2-acre dog park has a large and small dog pond, shaded structures, benches, water features, drinking fountains with dog-friendly spigots and a dog washing area. What more could you ask for?

Eadog Park

Go to this place, if only for its catchy name. Located in Eado (obviously), Eadog Park is a relatively new dog park. Although not as big as some of the other parks on this list, it features all the essentials, like benches and water fountains. It also features mulch as opposed to grass, which is a smart option with Houston’s temperamental weather. What’s truly great about this park is that it’s a testament to the growth in East Downtown. You know what they say – first comes the artists, then the trendy hipster bars, then the dog parks…that’s progress, right? You can find some great dog parks in Houston these days.
