15 Tattoo Design Ideas For Minimalists

If you’ve never gotten a tattoo before, getting inked up can seem scary! Having ink embedded into your skin forever is a huge commitment. If you’re looking to get your first tattoo and you don’t want something too big to start out with, check out some of these smaller tattoo design ideas. Or, if you’re simply on the minimalist side, these tats may speak to you!

1. Angel Numbers

If you’re into spirituality, consider getting angel numbers tatted on you! Angel numbers are a sequence of numbers, such as 333 or 444, that many people find to convey a deeper message when seen throughout the day. If you want to read more about them, check out this article. This is the perfect mini tattoo to get anywhere on your body.

2. Tiny Flower

You truly can’t go wrong by getting a flower tat! This tattoo design can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like it to be. If you or a loved one has a particular flower they like, this is a great beginner tattoo design to get on your body. You can simply get an outlined design, or you could get it shaded. Regardless, this will ease you into the tattoo world.

3. Stars

Stars are a great minimalist tattoo option for those who don’t want anything big. You could get a certain arrangement of stars, such as the constellation representing your zodiac sign, or you could simply get a cluster of stars in one place. Regardless, this simple design is both cute and trendy!

4. Butterfly

What’s not to love about butterflies? They’re gorgeous creatures, so why not get a butterfly tattoo? You could get a super simple design tatted on you, or, again, you could always opt for a more complicated design. If you’re not into butterflies, get a different tiny insect tatted on you!

5. Strawberry

The perfect minimalist tattoo design idea? A tiny strawberry, of course! Strawberries have a basic design and don’t really need any special meaning, other than the fact that they’re tasty and cute. You can put this strawberry anywhere on your body and you surely won’t regret it.

6. Behind-The-Ear Tat

A great discreet place for a small, minimalist tattoo is behind the ear! If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to tattoos, getting something small behind your ear may help you feel it out. That way, if you end up regretting it down the line, it won’t be too visible unless you put your hair up.

7. Small Words

Is there a certain quote or saying that is important to you? Consider getting it tatted on you! If you find significance in certain words, this is a great place to start when it comes to tattoos. Words are uncomplicated and as minimalist as it gets (depending on the size and font, of course). You could even get these words in a wavy design to keep it interesting, like in the photo below.

8. The Sun

Going along with the constellation side of things, a great minimalist tattoo is the sun! Like all tattoos, the sun can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be. If you go for a simple outline, like in the photo below, you’ll be catering to that beginner-tat mindset. Having the sun tatted can take on many meanings, or you could simply get it for the aesthetic of it all. The location of the sun tatted below is on the lower back, which is another great area to get your ink placed if you’re just starting out.

9. Year

Is there a certain year that takes on meaning for you? This could be the year you were born, the year your mother was born, or even just a year that is significant to you. Getting a year tattooed on you goes along with the number theme, making it a simple and easy tattoo. Consider getting the year on the back of your neck, like in the photo shown below. This is a discreet place for a tattoo if you aren’t sure how to feel about them yet – and, it’ll look super cute when you put your hair up.

10. Face

Face outlines make for gorgeous tattoos in the sense that they are both simple and elegant. The style in the tattoo below is known as a “continuous line drawing,” where each part of the face is connected. There are many different styles related to this if you don’t want to get a face – just search the Pinterest world and find something you like! Either way, this is a really simple design that you’re bound to fall in love with.

11. Finger Tat

It may seem counterintuitive to get a finger tattoo if you’re a minimalist, but hear me out! There are tons of discreet ways you can go about this. You could get your tattoo on the inside of your finger, or you could simply get something small enough to where it doesn’t immediately stand out. For example, the photo below shows a small tattoo on the inside of the finger that you probably wouldn’t notice unless someone showed you themselves. Either way, finger tattoos can be simple yet intriguing.

12. Book

If you enjoy reading, get a book tattoo! Books have a really simple outline that is perfect for any minimalist. You can get a stack of books, a singular book, or even an open book with the pages turning. This would make for a great representation of one of your hobbies.

13. Dice

Dice tats stick to that simplistic line design that doesn’t involve any special shading or fancy effects. Dice can take on many meanings, but most people consider them good luck. Plus, you can have the face of the dice showing any series of numbers depending on meaning and preference! Get creative with this one and enjoy this small minimalist design.

14. Glassware

If you enjoy drinking or just want something simple and fun on your body, consider getting glassware! The great thing about glassware tats is that you can get really creative with them. You could get a wine glass and add some color, or a simple martini glass with a cute little olive in it. Just search for some inspo online, and you’re likely to find something simple that will catch your eye.

15. Bird

For some, birds symbolize freedom. For others, birds symbolize beauty. For you, birds may not symbolize anything at all! But why not get one tatted on you? Birds are a cute minimalist tattoo option that you can get in a really simple outline, such as in the picture below.
