Trust me when I say, that being sick during the winter months is one of the worst things ever, especially when it’s around the holidays. Unfortunately, this year I happened to come down with a small cold just before Christmas. I was really hoping it was just my allergies, but no such luck. I was glad to be feeling better by Christmas Day, and I was definitely in the spirit too, considering I could rival Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in looks. It’s always the worst when your nose is running like a non-stop faucet for two days straight. I’m actually embarrassed that I went through a whole box of Kleenex in less than 24 hours! One thing that always helps me to feel better when I get like this is eating some good ol’ soup. I remember when I got Mono twice in the same year, yes, I caught it twice, and I basically lived off of soup for a good month. In my opinion, nothing is better than some hot and tasty soup to help nip those yucky feelings in the bud. Plus, with there being so many different kinds of soups, you have plenty of options to choose from. Here are seven of my favorite Progresso soups to help me in getting back on track to being healthy once more.
When I was younger, I couldn’t stand Split Pea soup. Everything about it just totally threw me off, and I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. As I grew older, I slowly began to take a liking to it, and now at 27 years old, it’s one of my absolute favorite tasty soups! It’s definitely my number one go-to when I feel a cold coming on. I love that this soup is nice and thick, and the added ham and diced potatoes are a bonus as well. Honestly, I’d say that it was the potatoes that sold me on this tasty soup, as I’m a huge lover of spuds! Whenever I’m done with heating up some of Progresso’s Split Pea with Ham on the stove, I always top it off with some 100% grated Parmesan cheese. It’s truly the best!
I love, love, love this soup from Progresso! When I was a little kid, Minestrone would always be my go-to soup whenever I came down with a cold. I feel like it was the only way my mom could get me to eat my vegetables too! Unfortunately, two years ago, I discovered that I had a wheat allergy, and was bummed to find out that I could no longer enjoy my favorite childhood soup, unless I made it from scratch. But when I could still eat this soup, I loved all of the delicious veggies they’d add, along with the different kinds of beans. The penne pasta was one of my favorite parts of this soup, and of course, the potatoes! Again, I recommend topping this tasty soup off with some Parmesan.
I remember when I first spotted this tasty soup by Progresso back in 2013, and thought that it sounded really good. I used to be a huge fan of chicken pot pie; not so much now due to my allergy. This was actually my soup of choice when I was sick with Mono about 6 years ago. I love the creaminess of this tasty soup, and how they nailed that pot pie flavor perfectly! Plus, I like how they added the little dumplings in there; it complements the soup extremely well. Naturally, this pot pie soup contains white chicken, peas, carrots and celery all together in a deliciously creamy sauce. I prefer to eat this soup plain, but you could always add a bit of pepper on top for some added spice.
How could I not include chicken noodle soup on this list? It’s a timeless classic! This was yet another tasty soup that grew on my over the years; I was never truly a fan of it as a small child. My mom would usually buy the Lipton Chicken Noodle soup, and I always despised that one for some reason. But when I tried Progresso’s Chicken & Homestyle Noodles soup at about 11 or 12 years old, I instantly fell in love with it. I do miss this soup quite a bit, and I’m not very good with making soups from scratch. I know in my heart that chicken noodle soup can always make me feel better, even with the worst of colds. Plus, this is the best one that Progresso has to offer in my opinion; I just love the thickness of the noodles. Never say no to a bowl of hearty chicken noodle soup!
My husband was actually the one to find this soup for me just recently this year. I was also quite pleased to find that this tasty soup by Progresso only has 200 calories per can, and I don’t know about you, but I always eat the whole can when it comes to soup. I can honestly say that this is one of my new favorites for soup, especially when I’m battling a cold! I love how creamy it is, and the fact that it’s just potatoes, bacon and cheese. What more could you ask for? It’s definitely very flavorful, and feels quite soothing on a sore throat. I love eating this soup plain with nothing on it, as it’s already perfect just the way it is!
I remember stumbling across this tasty soup from Progresso two years ago, right after I’d found out about my wheat allergy. I was happy to discover that I still had some delicious options to choose from, and decided to try the Beef Pot Roast with Country Vegetables soup. This tasty soup ended up being a definite win in my book, especially seeing as I went a bit overboard with eating it for a month straight (even though I wasn’t even sick). Now, whenever I do start to come down with a pesky cold, I like to stock up on this amazing soup. I love the tender pieces of beef, along with the green beans, carrots, onions, and of course, potatoes. You’ll find that many of the soups on this list contain them; potatoes just complete soup, it’s that simple. One thing that’s for sure about this soup, is that it truly tastes like a homecooked meal in a can.
Last, but certainly not least, is Chicken Rice soup! This was yet another tasty soup by Progresso that my husband picked out for me at the grocery store. He truly knows just what I like! This soup is as close to chicken noodle soup as I can get without having to make it from scratch. Naturally, instead of noodles, there’s white rice, juicy white chicken, carrots and celery that are all in a flavorful broth. I know that I can always count on this tasty soup when I’m feeling under the weather to give me the energy that I desperately need. Plus, this soup is super easy on the stomach, and not as heavy as some of the other ones. I loved adding just a little bit of Parmesan cheese on top of this tasty soup as well!
