I love, love, love rice and peas. Practically anything that has rice in it, I will consume gladly. I think that this is one meal that will never get old because rice can get paired with anything.

5. Curry Goat

Goat meat tastes similar to beef but is slightly different. This tender dish is served with white rice and is also a favourite at house gathering meal.

One of the many  Jamaican dishes that has made a name for themeselves in the states, is the Jamaican beef patty is infamous. The beef is seasoned with curry, onion, garlic. The beef is then placed in a buttery dough, in the shape of a moon and baked.

Beef is the original version though patties are now made with chicken, fish, ham and cheese, veggies. When I was younger, I ate these faithfully and still do to this day when I can.

Breakfast is usually the heavier meal in Jamaica of the day. The callaloo dish is one of the lighter dishes prepared. For Jamaicans, it’s not a shock to consume curry chicken, brown stew chicken, liver or kidney for breakfast along with fried johnny cakes and potatoes.

8. Sweet Potato Pudding

Sweet potato pudding is a local treasure in Jamaica. It’s considered to as being “hell a top, hell a bottom and hallelujah in the middle”.
