Date night with your significant other is one of the best ways to spend an evening. Especially, when most days of your college career involve studying, stressing, and stuffing you face with ramen noodles. Treat yourself and your partner to a romantic night out at one of Tallahassee’s date spots such as a restaurant, a park, the Florida State University campus, or just random events throughout the city.
Bella Bella is one of my all-time favorite date spots. The small restaurant has a dark and Italian setting which makes it for a very romantic ambiance. The lights are very dim which highlights the beautifully painted windows and other paintings hanging up throughout the restaurant. The food and service are superb every time. The restaurant doesn’t take reservations so be sure to go when you have a little time to spare. Although the wait time has never exceeded more than thirty minutes, even on busy weekends. This authentic spot is a trustworthy favorite among FSU students. If you go, be sure to try their stuffed mushrooms appetizer and chicken alfredo.
Eve on Adams is a brand new rooftop bar and lounge located on the sixteenth floor of the Doubletree Hotel. It has only recently opened up so they don’t have quite everything yet but their drinks and service were still topnotch. The bar has a gorgeous view of all of Tallahassee including Florida State’s campus and the Capital building. I highly recommend going around sunset for a truly gorgeous view. The drinks can be quite expensive so just pace yourselves. Cuddle up with your partner while sipping a sophisticated cocktail whilst overlooking the wonderful city of Tallahassee.
The Melting Pot is one of Tallahassee’s greatest date spots for couples who enjoy being active. This restaurant serves a wide variety of meats, cheese, and chocolate. You can go for an all-out dinner or just make for a romantic chocolate fondue snack. There is a stove in the middle of the table in which your server sets up everything for you to either cook your meats or simply dip your fruit or bread in for some heavenly chocolate or cheese fondue. The tables feel very private which makes for a secluded romantic date night for you and your partner. Top your evening off with some drinks which they always have fabulous deals on throughout the month.
Just looking for a simple but classic ice cream date with your boo? Sugar Rush is an absolute must. With candy-themed walls and milkshakes literally toppling over with ingredients, you’re sure to have a sweet night with your partner. The restaurant is on a secluded street away from the busy FSU campus. Grab your bae, a sweatshirt, and a large milkshake for a romantic night filled with your favorite ice cream flavors. This little nook gets extremely busy on weekends so be sure to get there early. I recommend sitting outside of the restaurant at one of the wooden tables with lights overhanging.
Want to get back to nature with your partner for a relaxing and refreshing date night? Mission San Luis Park is the perfect spot for you. The park has a beautiful lake with a boardwalk overlook for you to either walk on or sit on one of the benches to take in the serene landscape of birds, turtles, and trees. There is also a dog park if you and your partner want to take your four-legged friend for a night on the town too. Lastly, there are various trails throughout the park that will make you feel as if you’re completely secluded (but not too secluded if you know what I mean). Enjoy a fairytale walk through the tall trees and overhanging moss. This park is definitely one of my favorite date spots. My partner and I like to go for walks and have picnics near the lake.
The Florida State University Reservation (also known as the FSU Rez) is one of the best places for FSU students to get away from college-life and just relax and have fun. You and your partner can go swimming in the lake, kayaking, play games, or just relax on the beach together. There are so many fun activities to do including play volleyball, ping pong, or bean bag tossing. There is also a lifeguard to ensure the safety of swimmers. Bring a picnic basket and a large blanket for a romantic afternoon in the Tallahassee sunshine. Top off your trip to the Rez with a brisk kayak or paddle-boarding adventure that will have the two of you laughing and splashing each other. The FSU Rez is free for all FSU students.
Do you and your significant other love animals or history? The Tallahassee Museum is a wonderful museum that features beautiful animals native to Florida as well as an area dedicated to Florida’s history. Stroll through the park while looking at animals including otters, foxes, wolves, panthers, birds, and so many more. If you’re looking for even more activities to do, the museum offers zip-line rides. I have not had a chance to go zip-lining yet but I highly recommend doing so. The riders always look like they are having so much fun and the equipment and instructors are extremely safe and thorough. End your day at the museum by purchasing a small item at their adorable gift shop.
This may be a tiny bit of a drive for FSU students but it is totally worth it. See some of Florida’s beautiful plantations and perfectly manicured gardens. The gorgeous landscapes and trails make for a very romantic date spot which will have you feeling at one with nature. Take cute couple pictures in front of the many picturesque areas or just walk hand-in-hand taking in the scenery. Be sure to check the weather before you go so that you don’t make the drive for nothing.
First Friday is an event that takes place every first Friday of each month at Railroad Square Art Park. The shops, galleries, and restaurants stay open late to make for a relaxed and fun evening outing. Food trucks and musicians line the street for a romantic and energetic ambiance. Stroll through the park looking at different stores while eating from one of the many delicious food trucks. I highly recommend stopping into the giant vintage store. They have adorable antiques which you and your partner can spend some time perusing until you find just the right one.
Every Saturday morning there is a downtown market on Park Ave. right across from the Doubletree Hotel. The market features local vendors who sell things like art, dog supplies, honey, bread, jewelry and so many more. Various food trucks come out with fresh and locally-grown ingredients. People of all ages can enjoy this market because of the vibrant atmosphere, delicious food, wonderful people, and all the creative items and products being sold. I highly recommend making this one of your top date spots because what’s better than beginning your Saturday than with a trip to your local market with your significant other. Buy each other gifts or just enjoy one another’s company with other FSU students or Tallahassee locals.
