10 Sustainable Swaps You Can Easily Make

Moving towards sustainable living is a long journey of learning and researching to make better choices for the earth. Lots of changes have to be made, but it does not have to necessarily be a bad thing! Here are 10 sustainable swaps you can easily make!

1. Makeup Eraser

This product has taken the beauty world by storm with its cute colors and strong efforts towards cutting down on waste. For all of our makeup lovers, sometimes one makeup wipe does not cut it at the end of the day when you are taking off your makeup. This can build up in your trashcan and eventually in landfills.

The Makeup Eraser is a reusable makeup wipe that is wet with water and will take off all of your makeup at the end of the day. Once the Makeup Eraser is all filled up with your old makeup, you can throw it in the wash with your towels and it comes out brand new!

2. Natural Loofah

Have you ever wondered where your old loofah goes after you replace it with a new one? You can bet that these are not recyclable and non-compostable. Another sustainable swap that you can make in your shower is buying natural loofah to clean your body.

This swap works in all of the same ways that your other loofah does but you do not have to feel guilty once you have gotten your use out of it! Natural loofahs can be found at any of your local grocery stores and natural food markets to make those small steps to sustainable living.

3. Refillable Deodorant

One of the best sustainable efforts we have seen recently is with deodorant companies! There are quite a few brands, even some familiar ones, that are cutting back on waste by offering refillable.

You are first going to buy the entire thing with the deodorant holder and the actual deodorant. After you are done with the first one, you will only need to buy the refills of the deodorant. There is no more worrying about trying to recycle your old plastic one and you can def cut back on waste with this product!

4. Rechargeable Lighter

We think that this swap has to be one of the greatest inventions ever. Lighters are a necessity for all candle lovers like us and we love this rechargeable lighter that will last forever. Traditional lighters are going to run out once the lighter fluid runs out only to leave a huge chunk of plastic with nowhere to go.

This version of a lighter can be plugged into any USB charger and at the flick of a switch will create a flame for that yummy candle you are wanting to burn! No more having to keep buying lighters as you can always keep this one on hand!

5. Reusable Face Masks

As we are still in a pandemic, this swap might seem obvious. It is truly sad to be driving around in a parking lot and see tons of paper masks thrown off on the street and everywhere else but the trash. These masks are ending up in the ocean and endangering the lives of the ocean life.

You can cut back on this waste by buying reusable and washable face masks. You can keep using these time after time and once they are dirty, just throw them in your next load of laundry or hand wash them with your fave face wash to cut back on any maskne!

6. Reusable Cotton Pads

From DIY mani-pedis to skincare routines, you use a lot more cotton balls than you think in your daily routines. To cut back on the waste that comes from the hundreds of cotton balls that you will go through, try swapping with washable cotton pads.

From different kinds of material and fabrics, you are bound to find something that you love to use instead of plain cotton balls. We are loving the kind made of organic cotton with fun designs to make our skincare routine a little bit more fun!

7. Washable Straws

We can all relate to having to use a straw to drink any kind of beverage. It just feels unnatural to not use one! To cut back on your plastic use with all of those straws, consider washable straws that you can keep loving and using drink after drink.

These straws can easily be rinsed and thrown in whatever drink you have compared to a plastic straw or even a paper one that shreds after a while.

Plastic baggies are the perfect thing for keeping everything from leftovers to trinkets together. But then it gets a little much when it seems like we are constantly out of them! Solve the waste problem and the buying problem with reusable and washable silicone baggies!

These silicone baggies can be used as many times as you like, unlike the traditional kind that is one and done and in the trash to sit. There are also tons of cute versions of these baggies, for sure a lot cuter than the traditional clear version that will end up in a landfill!

9. Washable Paper Towels

This swap is one of the most interesting that we have found but that we are obsessed with. These washable paper towels will get whatever job you need to be done just like any other kind of paper towel. The beauty is that this product can be washed and reused as many times as you would like.

Just like the baggies, there are tons of patterns and colors to choose from so that you can feel extra cute while using your sustainable product!

10. Beeswax Coverings

Another kitchen swap that we are loving at the moment is the alternative to traditional foil or plastic wrap. First of all, plastic wrap is not user-friendly and you end up using a lot more than you planned on just because you can’t get it to stick to your dish.

Second of all, cute patterns! These coverings are made with beeswax to help preserve your food and act in the same ways that plastic wrap does! You can wrap your food in them or place them over any kind of dish that you are wanting to save.
