Every college senior is excited about the final year of long sleepless nights, endless procrastinating, and finessing papers was worth it! As you get ready to buy books and run around campus to catch classes. There are a few things you should know about being a college senior and how to overcome senioritis! You’re slowly approaching the transition from being in school to working or job hunting. Before you stress over the real world, you need to pass your classes and snag a diploma! As a post-grad, I am here to provide you with some helpful tips to survive your final year as an undergrad student! Here are some survival tips for the college senior!
The biggest L any senior has caught is finding out they don’t have enough credits to graduate! It would suck to take some classes and work your ass off to find out the credits didn’t count or transfer. It’s important to always check your credits! Take some winter courses, if you don’t have enough credits. Another option is walking at your graduation but taking summer courses after. This is the main reason why it’s advised to take a summer course between your freshman and sophomore year! It’s better to exceed the needed amount of credits! This is a survival tip for college seniors!
Senioritis has been the reason why some people haven’t graduated. Yes, it’s dope to be a senior because you’re almost out the door but your grades still matter! You need a passing grade to get credits to get approval for graduation. Senioritis is a mixture of procrastination, skipping classes and stressing out due to school work piling. Just stay away from senioritis! You will be stressed out and have to pull an all-nighter to catch up! I’m all for procrastination but there are levels of procrastinating!
Depending on your career choice, don’t expect a large salary with an entry-level job. It’s important to save money because life will hit you when it’s least expected. If you’ve taken out student loans or have to pay major bills, you will need money! Sallie Mae does not play when you owe her money! I know people who have worked two jobs plus took hard classes and ended up graduating with honors! Anything is possible, you just the motivation and drive! Try living below your means will help you value money. Stop paying attention to people who are bragging about materialistic items on social media. Some of those items are either fake or rented (yes you can rent designer bags). Get your finances together. This is a survival tip for college seniors!
Getting an internship will keep you busy but grow your resume. You’re close to entering the real world, that means you will be job hunting! Having internships that are catered towards your career choice are easier to get as an undergrad student. Most major corporations are hiring undergrad students! Take advantage of that opportunity before entering the struggle of job hunting. If you’re studying music then get an internship at a major label, you’ll be able to build connections and somewhat get your foot into the door.
Once you graduate, there’s a chance your friends will move to other cities and countries. The routine of seeing them daily will change. Majority of lifelong friendships come from college. Make sure to pick the right people into your circle! If someone can’t get their shit together or aren’t putting any effort into the relationship, it’s time to let them go! Now that you’re a senior, embrace your friendships whether they’re also seniors or underclassmen. This is a survival tip for college seniors!
