5 Surprisingly Tasty Carb-Free Recipes
Carb-free recipes are often not as good as we hoped they were. Finding the best carb-free recipes is usually a result of many failed attempts.Whether you are looking to lose weight, try some new recipes, test your skills or just want to be surprised by something new, these 5 carb-free recipes have got you covered. My brother switched to a keto diet to get in shape for his wedding and the 5 recipes on this list have all been tried, tested and selected as the most surprisingly tasty carb-free recipes! Let’s dive in and take a look.
1. Bread
Yes, I said bread! Bread has been prominent in people’s diets all over the world for hundreds of years and is one of the oldest foods people adopted. Some would call it irreplaceable. It’s probably one of the hardest, if not the hardest thing to avoid when adopting a low-carb diet.
This is the perfect bread recipe if you are really craving bread, but don’t want to cheat on your diet. It’s also great if you are looking for interesting gluten free recipes. You can see a whole selection of keto breads in this list. Right now we are focusing on just one.
It’s not the easiest recipe to get exactly right on your first try, but it’s one of the most rewarding carb-free recipes when you get the hang of it. Check out the full recipe here. There is also a video provided, so you can get a sense of what your dough should look like. The bread is crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside and is really tasty with just butter or spiced olive oil. You can also freeze it and save it for later. The recipe offers both US and metric measurements so you can get everything exactly right.
A glimpse of the recipe: Mix the dry ingredients (almond flour, psyllium husk powder, baking powder, salt). Bring water to a boil. Add vinegar and egg whites to the dry mix. Add boiling water while beating with a hand mixture for about 30 seconds careful not to over mix the dough. Form into shapes, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake.
2. Ice Cream
The main mistake people make when switching to a new diet, especially a carb free or sugar free one, is that they limit their options. They forget to enjoy food and look for recipes that could bring them just as much joy and satisfaction as the ones they used to have.
Take ice cream for example. There are lots of ways to make healthier ice creams, which don’t use sugar or dairy, a lot of recipes don’t even require an ice cream maker. This particular ice cream is perfect for a keto diet and it uses just 4 ingredients. It’s just as creamy and delicious as regular ice cream. See the full instructions here.
A glimpse of the recipe: full-fat coconut milk, vanilla extract or vanilla beans (use both for best effect), sweetener and salt are mixed together. If you have an ice cream machine churn it and enjoy. If you don’t have an ice cream machine, freeze in cubes, blend in a blender and enjoy as a soft serve or put the blended mixture in the freezer for a little bit for a firmer texture.
3. Cheesecake
It doesn’t matter what this cheesecake is made with, what matters is the delicious end result. This cheesecake is proof that carb-free recipes and vegan alternatives to popular dairy recipes can be just as great as the original! You can find the recipe, with a video and full instructions here.
A glimpse of the recipe: Blend the ingredients for the crust: walnuts, almonds, dates, melted coconut oil, shredded coconut, sea salt. Press down in a cake pan. Blend the ingredients for the filling: soaked cashews, coconut cream, maple syrup (replace with stevia or erythritol to make carb-free), lemon juice, melted coconut oil, vanilla. Set aside half. Add the blueberries to the remainder of the batter. Pour the berry mixture onto the crust, pour the white mixture over the blueberry mixture. Freeze, take out 15-20 minutes before serving.
It’s a long recipe when you look at it, but thanks to the blender it’s actually very quick to make as long as you have everything prepared. It’s a great treat for anyone looking at carb-free recipes.
4. Granola
Just like bread, oats are usually something we consume on a daily basis. Especially if you are used to eating something like porridge for breakfast, removing (or minimising) oats from your diet may be a challenge.
There are good carb-free recipes or low-carb recipes that can replace porridge. You can make overnight breakfast “oats” with chia seeds (there are many carb-free recipes for these). If you are not a fan of the overnight breakfasts “oats” or if you are looking to switch things up, you could try this amazing low-carb golden granola. Full recipe here.
A glimpse of the recipe: Mix hazelnuts or almonds, shredded coconut, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, flaxseed, turmeric, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, almond flour, water and coconut oil in a bowl (nuts chopped coarsely in a food processor or with a sharp knife). Spread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and roast as instructed. When the granola is dry, turn the heat off and let it cool in the residual heat of the oven. Serve it with Greek yogurt.
Be careful not to burn the nuts and not to overdo the serving. It’s a very filling and nutritious granola, so little will go a long way with this recipe.
5. Brownie
Who said carb-free recipes have to be boring. This brownie is great not only for people who are on a carb-free diet, but also for those who don’t like all the guilt that usually comes with eating regular sugar-loaded brownies.
This is a really rich, moist brownie that goes well with yogurt and the ice cream on this list! You can find the full recipe here.
A glimpse of the recipe: melt chocolate and butter on a water bath. Whisk eggs, a few stevia drops and/or erythritol and process until well combined. Half avocados, remove seed and scoop into a blender, add coconut milk and pulse until smooth and creamy. Add the blended avocado into the egg mixture and process until combined. Pour in the melted chocolate and butter and mix again until creamy. Mix dry ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, cacao powder, baking powder and salt. Add dry mixture into the mixer and process until combined. Place dough into a baking dish and flatten with a spatula. Bake and enjoy.
This is another relatively quick recipe that could be added to your treat list.
