Eating healthy doesn’t just make us look good, it helps us feel good. If you are trying to be healthier this year, this article is for you. I’ve put together nine superfoods that will energize and nourish your body. Let’s get started!
Where are my avocado addicts out there? Avocadoes are so creamy and delicious, either in guacamole, smoothies, avocado toast, etc. They are full of healthy fats and fill you up for the day. Personally, I love eating pretzels and guac as a yummy afternoon snack. It sounds weird, but it’s delicious!
Yes, dark chocolate is healthy! Try to get chocolate with a super high amount of cacao, because this is where you get the superfood. If you don’t like the bitter flavor at first, you will get used to it. Have this as your dessert after a healthy dinner. I usually have dark chocolate once a day as a sweet treat to look forward to. Plus, it’s packed with antioxidants and healthy fats. Treat yo’self!
Strawberries are so juicy and delicious. They are probably my favorite fruit and make great toppings on smoothie bowls and salads. If they are in season, and freshly picked from the vine, even better. If you can, grab these at your local farmer’s market! Nothing like nature’s candy. So delicious!
When salmon is cooked right it can be so juicy and flavorful. Grill up some lemon butter salmon on a grill or stovetop. Add some brown rice and veggies as your side and voila! You have a perfectly healthy meal. Plus, salmon is full of omega-3 fatty acids and protein to keep you satisfied. I’m totally craving this now.
Kale is like the green superfood goddess. Toss some fresh, leafy kale into a salad and drizzle with lemon vinaigrette, chickpeas, and cranberries. Kale has tons of antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory. You can also throw some kale in your smoothies and you will barely taste it! I don’t know about you guys, but I’d rather drink my veggies than eat them.
This is probably my favorite superfood in existence. Sweet potatoes are so tasty and are a healthy version of comfort food. My favorite thing to make is sweet potato fries when I’m craving junk food but want a healthy alternative. Nothing like tricking your body into eating healthy food by disguising it as junk food!
Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast right now, and even better it’s a superfood! To make your oats extra creamy and thick, spoon in some peanut butter and top with banana slices and chia seeds. Oats are full of fiber and give you sustained energy to conquer the day. I look forward to this every morning.
Carrots and hummus make the perfect crunchy afternoon snack. You can also roast your carrots in the oven with olive oil and spices and they make a great side dish to chicken or steak. Carrots improve your vision, immune system and promote overall healthier skin. We love a skin glowing queen!
Who doesn’t love a good omelet on a cozy Sunday morning? Eggs are packed with protein, healthy fats and give you a boost of energy. Throw some fresh veggies in your omelet like mushrooms, tomatoes and green onions. Eggs can also promote weight loss! We love a skinny legend.
