10 Super Easy Ways To Style Curly Hair In The Summer
Humidity is the bane of my existence. My curly hair never agrees with summer weather, and I’ve spent years trying to figure out what exactly to do with it when the sun comes out. After much trial and error, I’ve come up with ten super easy ways to style curly, frizzy hair in the summer!
1. Cornrow Style Braids
I call these braids my vacation hair.
They are super wearable with pretty much any summer outfit you could imagine. I personally enjoy them for days on the beach and tanning, as they stay out of my face and keep my curly hair at bay.
2. High Bun
For all my athletes with frizzy hair, I know it can be annoying to do the low pony tail and feel it growing as your soccer game goes on in the dry heat. I find the most effective method to reduce feeling your hair is to quite literally get it as far away from your face as possible!
While high buns can be used for working out and sports, they are also versatile; you can dress them up with a cute summer outfit.
3. Fishtail Braid
The fishtail braid is one of my all-time favorite summer hair styles, mainly because of how the curls look when you undo the braid. They are a perfect beach wave, and much more tamed then they were when you started the braiding process this morning.
4. Bandana
In order to properly style curly hair in the summer, it takes a little bit of creativity. Something I started doing last summer was wearing bandanas more often when my hair got too frizzy.
5. Styling Gel
Personally, I love my curls when they’re wet. They’re pretty and full of personality. Thing is, there is a fine line between wet curls and dry curls; my dry curls turn frizzy very quickly.
While I used to be opposed to using gel, I’ve found that it’s the only product I use that can get me that wet curl look that I love oh so much.
6. Diffuser
Essential to the curly hair styling process, a diffuser will keep your curls in tact while removing the frizz as it dries. If you don’t own a diffuser as part of your blow-drier, you need to get one ASAP.
7. Half up/Half down
The half-up, half-down look is one that will never grow old. If Ariana Grande still does it, so can you.
This is also a super easy way to give the illusion that your curls are longer than they actually are. I used to spend time trying and straighten the ends of my hair, only creating more dryness. This curly hair style made me ditch the straightener.
8. Messy Low Bun
Low buns are my go hair style for any season, regardless of humidity. However, in the summer, there are ways to make this look slightly more interesting.
I like to keep some pieces in front and either use a styling gel or a mousse to define them. Trust me, it makes all the difference.
9. Wear A Cap
Sometimes, nothing helps and its just a really horrid hair day. Put a cute cap on and no one will even notice.
10. Moroccan Oil/Coconut Oil
If you don’t own a cap, but your hair is uncontrollably dry and frizzy, reach for either some Moroccan or coconut oil. Coconut oil is better off being used during the hair washing process as a deep conditioner, but if you use a small amount on the ends of your hair, it’ll still do the trick.
Moroccan oil is a life saver when it comes to styling. I will literally apply it all over my head, and it creates a smoother, softer hair look.
It also smells unbelievable.
