Summer has arrived! Summer = beach days and long driving! I feel like at this day and age it’s crazy difficult to find music that appeals to the elders in the family. Whenever I go out with my mom or even my grandma, I’m always cautious about what plays in my car. I also have a 7-year-old niece who is just in love with singing and dancing! As she gets older, the lyrics and content in music is something to be very wary of.
If only the answer was to just to pop on Kidz Bop and that’s that! Of course, being human, I’m sure I can speak for the majority of the world when I say, maybe not! As supportive as I am to what Kidz Bop does, I don’t think I can listen to them 24/7, so here is a list of 10 Summer Songs You Need on Your Playlist for the young and old.
Growing up my grandma would be humming, singing or just outright blasting Abba in her house! Whether it be Mamma Mia or Dancing Queen, the songs just resonated. Later I realized, my favorite pop group did a whole album covering Abba. Whatever age you are, whoever sings, if it’s an Abba song; it will put you in the greatest of moods!

This is just a feel good, get up, start moving, upbeat, not only summer but everyday type of song. I have yet heard a better version than the one and only Whitney Houston.

A clear classic! This song has been featured in so many shows and movies and is probably the most recognizable in a favorite movie of mine and my sister’s; White Chicks. It has such beautiful piano play that marries perfectly with Vanessa’s memorable vocals, how could you not be put in a great mood?

I don’t know what it is but something about a catchy country song gets the young and old in a good mood. If it’s not a Shania Twain song or Achy Breaky Heart, any country song is a good addition to the summer playlist. Some other examples are Nothin’ to Lose by Josh Gracin or Horseshoes by Adam Gregory.
