As the warm months of summer begin, we may realize our wardrobe and life isn’t completely prepared for the months to come. We may feel as if our closet looks a little outdated or even if it doesn’t, we might just want a revamp. If you are feeling this way, or simply are in need of some new staples, take a look at this list of ten essentials you need to purchase this summer.
A good bikini is a must-have in the summer. No matter if you are going to the pool, beach, lake, or just sitting outside you will want a bikini to wear in the scorching sun. I believe that the most important thing to think about when shopping for bikinis is fit. Even if you love the print of a bikini, it is important to think about the cut as well and ensure that it is flattering and makes you feel confident.
There are so many different places you can buy bikinis from. I would recommend Shein if you want an inexpensive and trendy bikini. If you are not a fan of cheeky bikini bottoms, be wary of Shein as the majority of their bottoms are quite cheeky. I would recommend shopping at Nordstrom for a high-quality bikini. Though the price point on any item sold at Nordstrom far exceeds Shein, you have a variety of brands, styles, and coverage to choose from. Both places have excellent bathing suits they are just very different price points so it is up to you to determine what you value. Try a bikini with a fun print like this Free People one shown below. It’s the perfect summer essential!

A one-piece bathing suit is a frequently overlooked summer essential. In a one-piece, you are both classy and sexy. Just because it is a one-piece, doesn’t mean you have to feel like you are wearing a wet suit! When shopping for bathing suits I again recommend Shein and Nordstrom, but beyond that, I also recommend choosing solid and natural colors. By choosing a solid, especially black or brown, you are making yourself appear slimmer. Though I don’t necessarily understand how this trick works, it works. Take a look at this adorable one-piece with a cut-out from Free People! This could surely become a summer essential this year.

A swim cover-up is not only a great summer essential, but it’s great to pack for winter vacations too. A longer bathing suit cover-up, like the one shown below, can also double as a dress with a simple slip underneath! The easy addition of a long cover-up to your outfit adds a sophisticated and elegant element.

A baseball hat is an important summer essential. Not only will it keep the sun off your face but it is the perfect athleisure outfit accessory. I recommend a solid color baseball hat with no print or logos. This monochromatic accessory will elevate any workout outfit. Additionally, an all-white baseball hat can be paired with some jeans and a white t-shirt for a casual yet sleek look.

Sunglasses are an obvious summer essential. No one wants to be squinting as they’re trying to tan at the beach or when simply driving around! Investing in some sunglasses means you will never have to worry about that again. I have linked below some Ray-Bans. Yes, these glasses are expensive but they are also very high quality. If you don’t want to pay full price, wait for a sale or check out Amazon or Nordstrom Rack as they often have RayBans at a discounted price!

For me, a good pair of shorts is honestly one of the hardest summer essentials to find. I feel as though every pair I pick up is either the wrong size and fit, or simply bad quality. This is why I challenge you guys to find a pair to be your staple shorts for the summer. These shorts will be your go-tos and will allow you to create so many cute looks. Keep in mind what’s in style right now though! I recommend going for cut-offs and staying away from tight, super short shorts.

Rainbows. It’s that simple. I will never buy or recommend another brand of flipflop after being introduced to Rainbows. Not only are they very comfortable, but they are durable and also manage to be fashionable. These flipflops literally have it all. There are different colors and styles as well as sizes of the straps, so take a look through the Nordstrom website and see which ones you like the best.

A good beach bag or just a large bag, in general, is a good summer essential to keep in your closet. This bag can be used for grocery shopping, going to the pool, beach, or even just as a cute accessory. Not only will this rope bag hold a lot, but it is super fashionable and adds a summer-y element. I can not emphasize this enough! Use sunscreen on your face! SPF is a summer essential that must not be forgotten as even though it may not seem that warm, the sun will hurt your skin. For convenience purposes, I recommend using a moisturizer that has sunscreen in the formula already, but really any SPF will do. This CeraVe moisturizer with SPF 30 is really good and has a matte finish so it won’t leave your face looking greasy and like you have sunscreen on. Check it out!

I recommend keeping a little hand fan in your purse during the summer as you never know when it will come in handy. These little fans are very affordable and I can promise you this will be one of your most-used summer essential during a heatwave. Not only are these essentials cute, but they’re practical!
