10 Summer Drinks To Quench Your Thirst
Summer is a time for enjoying the heat, especially if you live in Montreal (it doesn’t stay hot for very long). From parties to many, many days poolside, the summer is the ultimate time to be outdoors. And with the long hours outdoors, comes the inevitable thirst. Here’s ten summer drinks to quench your thirst this warm season!
1. Sangria
Sangria, the great love of my life.
For people who don’t like drinking alcohol because of it’s taste, you need to try some sangria. It basically consists of cut up fruits and wine, and maybe a some liquor if you’re feeling adventurous. It tastes like candy, and goes down rather easily.
I’ve never met a person who didn’t agree with sangria.
2. Watermelon slush
Watermelon is one of my all-time favorite summer fruits and makes for one of the best summer drinks. To make this uber refreshing drink, freeze some watermelon into cubes and then add them to a blender with some water and mint. For a little more fun, add some vodka.
Trust me, you won’t even taste it.
3. Litchi Lemonade
Lemonade is a typical thirst quencher, one of the most basic summer drinks.
As soon as you add litchi to it, it becomes so much more than basic. Litchi is one of those fruits that adds so much flavor to a drink, you’ll never wanna have one without it again.
4. Beer Sangria
Yes people, there is a variation of sangria that includes beer in it. And what a fantastic concept it is.
5. Ginger-Peach Soda
Ginger, peach, soda, and mint may seem like a strange combination, but that’s not it at all. All the flavors compliment each other very well, and adding ice and a touch of rum turns this into a drink you won’t forget. Well, maybe you will forget.
6. Margarita
Make it using a mix from the convenience store, or pick up some lime juice and tequila and make it yourself! Make sure to crush up a lot of ice to ensure a nice, cold drink is on its way. For a little extra flavor, add in some orange zest. This is one of the best summer drinks for lounging by the pool with your girls!
7. Strawberry Daiquiri
Pretend that you’re on a resort asking for three strawberry daiquiris.
Now, realize that you’re just in your kitchen, but, that you can still very easily make this yourself! Strawberry daiquiris don’t require much effort; some frozen strawberries, lime juice, and some rum and voila!
8. Smoothies
Smoothies are a great drink year round. But they especially shine as summer drinks.
Smoothies can essentially be anything you want them to be, and that’s the true beauty of a smoothie. Any combination of frozen or fresh fruits, with juice and/or milk and yogurt, and you’ve got yourself a refreshment. My personal favorites: strawberry and banana, or orange juice and mango. The possibilities are virtually endless with smoothies.
9. Iced Cappuccinos
Now, I know what you’re all thinking; caffeine doesn’t quench thirst, does it?
While that may be true, I sure as hell won’t let it stop me from drinking iced coffees all summer long. There are two ways this can be made; with crushed ice, or with ice simply added to the coffee. The preferred method is crushed ice, which is more satisfying as a whole, but requires more effort. I always add almond milk and a touch of stevia, and I have my cold drink and my caffeine all in one!
Also, if you’re too lazy to do any of this, just go to Tim Horton’s and have them make you an ice cap. They’re only a dollar in the summer.
10. Mimosas
For some reason, I only drink champagne and orange juice in the summer. Here’s to the combination of both of them!
Also, I appreciate that there is no judgment associated with drinking mimosas so early on in the day.
