11 Subtle Ways To Show Your Love For Your Partner
Showing your partner that you love them isn’t always as simple as we may like it to be. Even when you love someone, the daily mundane aspect of life can tend to put a damper on any huge romantic gestures you may hope you make. However, there are ways to show your partner that you love them subtly so that you don’t have to worry about the enormous and expensive gesture. Here are 11 ways you can show your partner how much you love them!
1.) Know their love language.
There are five different “love languages” and they are Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time and Physical Touch. Someones love language is how they receive and give love. This is so important to know because it can help to guide you and your partner. If you know that your partner prefers Quality Time, then showing them you love them can look like you sitting on the couch watching a movie together. Do this quick quiz with your partner and start there!
2.) Hand-written notes
Depending on your partners love language, which if you did the quiz above you now know, they may love Words of Affirmation or love letters! This is a cost effective and thoughtful way to show your partner on a day to day basis how much they mean to you. Leaving a note in their car, lunch box, purse or wallet may be just the way to show them that you are thinking about them!
3.) Making lunch or dinner
Planning what to eat for every meal, every day for the rest of your lives can get monotonous. Don’t overlook the meaning that making your partner lunch or dinner can have! Not only are you taking one thing off of their plate but you have the power! Look up that recipe you have always wanted to try, go get the ingredients and get cooking! It can be as fancy as you want or as simple as you like. But when your partner gets home to a hot meal (with potential leftovers for lunch the next day) you can be assured that it will be appreciated.
4.) Plan…Anything!
Seriously, anything. No matter what your partners love language, planning ANY activity will mean so much to your significant other. There is nothing worse than the regular game of “What do you want to do?” followed by an “I don’t know, what do you want to do?”. When your partner is up to it, get those tickets! Plan that dance class. Go to that cooking class. Go for a walk. Plan a movie day. Your budget (or commonly lack there of) has no hold on this option. It doesn’t matter how much you spend! What matters is how much thought you put into it.
5.) Fold their clean laundry
So silly, I know. But there is something to be said about coming home to freshly washed clothes that are already folded and ready to put away. And there is something intimate about folding your partners clean laundry, and we could all use some more intimacy these days!
6.) Let them do things…without you!
Ah, yes. The difficult thing that all long-term couples learn sooner or later. Your other half, is a person with friends and a life, outside of the two of you. Devastating I know, but there are some upsides to this inevitable realization. Though it is important to trust and allow your partner the peace of mind to have those nights out or days or trips with friends and family without you, you also gain something. Missing them. And this will pay off in the end! Having a sense of independence is important for every partnership, though it may be uncomfortable at first!
7.) Do their least favorite chore for them
Does your significant other hate to do the dishes? Hate to vacuum. Just do it. It will take you two extra minutes, it’s free to do and it will make your partner feel so supported and thankful. Does it snow where you live? There is nothing better than getting up for work and seeing that your significant other cleaned your car off for you. At the end of the day, it really is the little things that take the least amount of time that mean the most.
8.) Read their favorite book
If you read your partners favorite book, now you can talk about their favorite characters, the plot line and debate the theme! It is guaranteed that if your partner has a favorite book, it has altered their life in some way. If you read the same book, not only will the simple act be sweet but you can now discuss it. One more thing to discuss and debate!
9.) Watch their favorite movie
Same reason as above! Make an effort to enjoy the art that they enjoy and it will only benefit you both in the end. Also, it gives good gift ideas for the future and helps you to see why your partner loves the things that they love.
10.) Do the mundane things, together!
Grocery shopping, the gym, the bank. All things we have to do. All things we reserve for a day deemed worthy of our tedious errands. My advice is, get the most of it! Make a day of it. Wake up early, put on your sweats and grab a coffee together. Meander through the aisles of the grocery store debating the best chip flavor and pick out your weekly dinners together. Sing songs in the car on the way from destination to destination. Put on your adorable Fabletics workout ensemble and accompany your significant other to the gym. These are all things that we have to do, that will only benefit us in the future and make us healthier and they are all things that done right, can rival any expensive date night.
11.) Take your alone time.
There is no way that you can be a good partner if you don’t have your alone time. Whether that looks like you binge watching movies in bed for a day or going on major shopping spree all alone, it is vital that you take the time out of your relationship to be alone.
