Style Guide For The College Guy: Upgrade Your Look

Listen up, boys. Now that you’re a college guy, many things are going to change. You might be looking to change your style to reflect your new-found manhood that came to you in the form of an acceptance letter. You are an adult now, so it’s time to put the Letterman jacket into storage, throw away your old ripped t-shirts, and focus on fashion for college guys. That’s right, we’re talking total man makeover. And the best part is you can do it without going broke. Here is your ultimate style guide for the college guy:

Jeans

Jeans might seem obvious, but they really are a necessity for a college guy. I am not talking about the kinds you wore 4 times a week, 3 years in a row that were washed once a week, have grass stains and fringed bottoms. You want to have a solid pair jeans because they literally go with everything. Whether you’re going to class or heading out to the bar, you can sport these and still look fly.

Try these styles:

A Bomber Jacket

A bomber jacket is an essential in every guy’s wardrobe for a reason. Bombers are the perfect layer during the warmer fall months and cooler spring months when you need a light jacket but a down or puffer coat is too heavy. Adding a simple bomber jacket can take any basic outfit to a street style icon.

Try these styles:

Joggers

Joggers should be a staple piece in every college guy’s closet. They’ve gained a lot of popularity in recent years and are now hotter than ever in 2018. The casual look combined with the semi-loose fit are perfect for those days when you just can’t throw on jeans. Dress them down with a hoodie or dress them up with a button down.

Try these styles:

A Simple V-Neck

Every guy needs a simple v neck…or a few in his closet. Just cover the basics and find a great fitting white, black and grey v neck and you’ll be all set for when you have “nothing to wear”.

Try these styles:

Graphic Tees

These will save your life. Hungover for your 8 a.m. Friday? Throw one on and call it a good morning. They are perfect for when you’re just relaxing in the dorms, studying in the library during finals week, and even when you’re just hanging out with friends in the lounge. But, be careful with what graphics you are actually advertising. Keep it classy, not crass.

Try these styles:

Sweaters

Sweaters are a staple for fall fashion – for both guys and girls. The best part about these things is that you can wear them whether you want to look casual or a little dressed up. Pair them with jeans and a t-shirt underneath. Go with a pair of plain-colored sneakers for the casual look or a pair of dress shoes for a more dressed-up appearance.

Try these styles:

Button Downs

You need at least two nice button down shirts. These will help you look fresh with minimal effort. Whether your off to a semi-formal campus event, presenting a PowerPoint, or you have a hot date with that girl you met at orientation, you will definitely need these one time or another.

Try these styles:

Flannels

Flannels are the perfect piece of clothing for pulling a look together. Too lazy to put together an actual outfit? Just pair a flannel over a hoodie and jeans and it will instantly give you street style cred.

Try these styles:

A Party/Date Night/Hitting The Bars Shirt

Ah, yes the party shirt. Every guy has one, and if you don’t, I suggest you get one now. Tropical patterns, floral prints and bold colors are in this year. Wearing one not only suggests confidence in your style but shows you know how to let loose and have a good time too.

Try these styles:

Sneaks

A nice pair of sneakers will go with mostly anything. A casual pair of lace up sneakers or high tops are perfect for days when you wan’t to look put together. And a clean pair of trainers or athletic sneakers are great for an athleisure look.

Try these styles:

Desert boots or lace up boots are also a very popular style for guys in the fall. These are perfect for looking grade A even when your real grades aren’t.
