They all said that visual communication is taking all over the world. Therefore, you can make good money after graduation (maybe), but there are a lot of things only design students understand. Check this list out!
You were so naïve walking into the class and thought everyone was the same, but you were wrong! When your lecturer introduced you to use the new tools, you eager to use it and quite satisfied with your work. Your mood dropped as soon as you see your classmates’ work. You figured out that there were so many people who were just simply better than you. All of the tools that you struggled with, they already knew how to use it for like 5 years.
Whenever it comes to assignments, normally you get stuck about everything. Right at the moment when you hear the assignment brief, you keep thinking about it but. From the concepts, colors, to where to put the objects. You basically struggle with everything.
Even though you have spent at least 3 years of learning design, people still ask you to do it for free. You hate it but if you are a design student you have to do it cause before you graduate, you want to make sure you have perfect your skills and have an excellent portfolio.
If you are a designer, you’ll know that feeling when your ‘friend’ asks you to so some ‘basic’ trick on her poster for free. Even after graduating, people don’t seem to take you seriously because ‘it’s not complicated this poster’.
When your lecturer hands your assignment brief to you, you say to yourself that this is an easy piece of cake, you can finish it in one day. But guess what, you are wrong!!
You come up with brilliant ideas, in your opinion of course, and when you present them to your lecturer, he declines immediately! And it is the same whenever you consult with him.
Visual communication work field is all about aesthetic appeal, and each person has different reference compares to another, different taste. Therefore, you might still struggle to find a job right now.
When you present your idea to clients, lecturers, or even teammates, you always get different opinions about your work. So you start to fixing and touching up a lot of details that just make you feel soooo tired!
You gradually learn how to be patient not only when designing but also when taking all of the opinions from your clients and try to please them, do all your best to please them.
After working for a while, and often get rejected, you start to doubt yourself if you are good enough or not.
Spending hours and hours on your laptop, eat, sleep and cry with it, people either assume that you are a professional gamer or an addict to your screen.
No time to be wasted. Your friends probably never see you during the assignment time because your studio is your house right now. You find peace, concentration as well as panic attack inside your studio.
