Fishbowl is a memory game that’s best played among large groups ranging anywhere from 6 to 20 players! In this game, teams race to correct answers and score as many points as possible before the other teams. First, gather some pieces of paper, a couple pens, and a fishbowl or large container. Next, divide the players into two teams. Each player on each team takes three strips of paper and writes a word or familiar phrase on each strip. Each player then folds their strips of paper in half and places them in the fishbowl, which is then shaken up to mix the responses. Three different rounds are played per game, so check out this quick tutorial for the rules for each round and a mock play through.
While there’s a board game available for purchase, all you really need is a whiteboard and some dry-erase markers. If you don’t have these materials, then grab a sketchpad and some pens or pencils. Each player writes down 10 phrases, objects, actions, or people on strips of paper and puts their choices into a bowl. Divide the players into two-player teams and pick a team to go first. One player draws from the bowl and attempts to draw the phrase, object, action, or person. The other player must guess what the piece of paper says based on what their teammate is drawing in a limited amount of time. The winning team guesses the most rounds of correct answers within the chosen time limit. This game is often played with modified rules, so check out this tutorial for an example of an informative play through.
This game is a free app that all your friends must download to their phones. Once downloaded, enter the names of everyone playing. The app asks questions about different players, and everyone in the room anonymously submits an answer. All players pick the funniest answer to the question, and the player who wins the most rounds wins the game. You’re able to tailor the questions and answers to the people you’re playing with, which makes this party game a bit more interactive than similar ones!
One of the most classic party games out there, Cards Against Humanity can be played with 3 or more players. Similar to Apples to Apples, each player draws 10 white cards, and the player who goes first draws and reads one black card, which is then displayed to all players for reference during the deliberation stage. Each player puts one white card (or two if the black card calls for multiple responses) face down into a pile, and the player whose turn it is first reads the black card by filling in the blank(s) with each player’s response and then picks one winner from all the responses. The player who wins back the most white cards wins the game. Get ready for some ridiculously raunchy combinations and side-splitting laughter!
Almost identical to Cards Against Humanity, What Do You Meme? is a hilarious card game that can be played with 3 or more players. Each player draws 7 “caption” cards, while the player who goes first draws and displays a meme card. Each player then chooses a response card to “caption” the meme, and the player whose turn it is decides which caption wins. The player who wins back the most caption cards wins the game.
There are also several versions of this game with different themes, such as Mean Girls, Spongebob Squarepants, and Game of Thrones.
Another classic party game, players describe words from six categories as quickly as possible in 30 seconds. First, divide all players into two-player teams, where one player will describe and one player will guess. The describer describes to their teammate as many words from the category as possible. The describer can use physical gestures and keywords but can’t say the word itself, the length of the word, the starting letter, or any rhyming words. You can either purchase the official board game or just keep track of the number of correct guesses per team and end the game when a team reaches a certain number of correct guesses, like 100 for a smaller group or 50 for a larger group. Check out the board game tutorial to get a visual of how the game is played.
Played with or without alcohol, King’s Cup is a party favorite for all ages! All you need is a deck of cards and a large cup placed at the center of the table or sitting space where you and your friends will gather in a circle. Although King’s Cup is typically played with beer, you can substitute for your drink of choice. The cards are scattered in a circle around the King’s Cup, and players take turns picking up a card. Each card has an action that follows, and the actions can either adhere to the standard rules or be modified for your group of friends. For a list of the standard action you’ll take for each card drawn, check out these rules.
Each time a King is drawn, the person who drew the King pours some of their drink into the King’s Cup. When the 4th and final King is drawn, the person who drew the 4th King must drink the concoction brewing within the King’s Cup!
A game for groups of literally any size, all you need is a standard 52-card deck. Each player is dealt 6 cards face down, the remaining cards are placed face down, and the top card is turned face up to start the discard pile. Players arrange their 6 cards in 2 rows of 3 in front of them and turn any 2 cards face up. The remaining cards stay face down and aren’t looked at until each round ends.
Players take turns drawing single cards from either the stock or discard pile. The drawn card may be either swapped for one of that player’s 6 cards or discarded. If the card is swapped for a face-down card, the card swapped in remains face up. The round ends when one player’s cards are all face up.
The object is for players to have the lowest possible value on the cards in front of them by either swapping cards for lesser values or by pairing cards up with cards of equal rank to cancel out the score. A game is nine “holes” (rounds/deals), and the player with the lowest total score is the winner. Check out this tutorial for card setup and scoring.
Definitely one of the more unique party games on this list, one player exits the room and the other players decide which celebrity that player will impersonate when they return. The chosen celebrity must be famous enough that all the players are familiar with their work.
After the celebrity is chosen, the player returns to the room and holds a “press conference” where the other players ask questions appropriate for that celebrity, and all questions should help the player figure out who they’re impersonating.
You can either set a time limit for each player to be interviewed or just allow the game to play out naturally, and feel free to keep score of who guesses their celebrity persona the quickest!.
Another classic party game for groups of all sizes, Head’s Up is an app that only one person needs to have downloaded to their phone. Divide players into teams or just have each player take a turn and have all other players help them guess!
The player who goes first picks a category and places the phone to their forehead. Similar to Articulate, they will have 60 seconds to guess as many responses as possible based on what the other players describe without saying the actual word, name, or phrase displayed. When the player with the phone guesses the right word/name/phrase, the other players say “yes,” and that player tilts the phone downward to record a correct guess. If the player wishes to skip a guess because they can’t figure it out based on the clues given, they can tilt the phone upward to skip.
Keep score or just have endless fun with this instant favorite!
Just like tabletop Jenga, this jumbo version can be turned into an ultimate party game by writing rules onto each block. This way, every time a player successfully removes a block, they have to perform the rule on the block they’ve pulled or else they are eliminated from the game. These rules can be as simple as “stand on one foot until the next player successfully removes a block”or as outrageous as “perform the Thriller dance until the next player successfully removes a block.”
This awesome party game can be played with or without drinking rules and still be endlessly entertaining!
