10 Spots You Should Definitely Consider Going For Study Abroad

Junior year is the prime year to study abroad, so many of us are either getting ready to plunge into our semesters or years abroad or are still debating where to go for the spring semester. With a world full of so many interesting and amazing cities, it’s pretty hard to narrow it down to just one place.

However, depending on where you choose, you may be able to explore many countries or continents for that matter. It all, however, depends on what your interests are, language exposure, and major is at the end of the day. Here however are 10 of the best study abroad cities for college students!

1. London, England

London is one of the most common studies abroad cities as it holds a rich history, and also many internship opportunities as well for all fields whether you may be studying journalism or biology. There is plenty of exciting nightlife at pubs and clubs, and you may even see a celebrity in your ventures out, or a royal if you’re really lucky. For music lovers, I highly urge you to think about London, as the British influence on rock ‘n’ roll is undoubtedly what put the genre on the map worldwide in the first place.

Also, theater lovers should strongly consider the city, as it is where performance art truly blossomed thanks to William Shakespeare. You will certainly not be bored in the city as there is plenty of sites to see like Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and the London Eye. So if you feel London calling you, please answer it!

2. Rome, Italy

When studying abroad, you cannot pick a city with better food than Rome. You’ll be spending your days absorbing the rich history through seeing sights like the Colosseum, the Patheon, St Peter’s Basilica and more. This city is easier to travel around and most places can be walked to on foot. However, keep in mind where your college has its facilities.

You’ll also want to keep in mind if this is the right place for your major. Three majors that would definitely want to take advantage of studying here are those in Italian, history, architecture, and visual art studies. If you are outside of Rome, your experience may not as exciting and you could wind up traveling more than exploring.

3. Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is where the past meets the future. While the city has deep historical roots and it is one of the most technologically advanced places in the world, as well as economically sound. The city has plenty of exciting attractions like Sensō-Ji and Tokyo Tower and there are plenty of cool nightclubs and bars as well. Due to its location very close to other countries in Asia, you can also easily travel to other places on the continent while you’re in Japan as well, so you’re not just beholden to one particular spot the whole time.

4. Buenos Aires, Argentina

For those who have become fluent in Spanish, but do not want to make the trip to Spain, Buenos Aires is your destination! The Argentiniannian city is full of beautiful architecture, rich culture and a plethora of sites to explore. Where it’s taking a stroll past amazing architectural constructions like the Tetro Colón, going dancing or exploring the countryside, you’ll find yourself entertained. One thing those should know before going is that you should be fairly fluent in Spanish before going. This would not be a place I’d recommend for those who are shaky on the language.

5. Paris, France

While this is a staple study abroad city, it should be emphasized why. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is truly like no other place on the planet. From it’s quaint streets and city cafes to of course monumental sights like the Eifel Tower and The Louvre, you’ll be sure to fall in love with Paris. If you do decide you want to go to Paris, make sure that you are up to date on your French, as you will be very lost if not, and it could lead to a less than pleasant time abroad.

6. Berlin, Germany

Berlin is often one the forgotten study abroad cities, but it should be remembered more frequently as it is full of vibrant culture, deep historical roots, and modern features. While you’re there you will certainly be drinking plenty of beer, nightclub hopping, and taking visits to many of the spots that are examples of breathtaking gothic architecture like Reichstag Building. If you’re also a huge fan of history, you’ll want to check out the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Monument.
