10 Songs To Add To Your High School Lifestyle Playlist
Remember those high school movies like The Breakfast Club, American pie, Bandslam, Clueless, Mean Girls? They were the ones to show us who we want to be in high school: the jock, the cheerleader, the popular girl, the rebellious girl, the nerd, etc. But what was memorable about those movies were the soundtracks. The soundtracks in those teen movies expressed teen angst, individuality, rebelliousness, happiness, etc. And that’s what you are going to experience in high school, so why not have a support system with you? A playlist. Add some of these songs to your high school lifestyle playlist to commence and conclude your high school days.
1. The Anthem By Good Charlotte
You must add this song to your high school lifestyle playlist because it is known to be played in high school movies like American Pie and The Pacifier (technically a high school movie). A lot of people in high school dream to be the jock, cheerleader, nerd, and the rebel. But just know you can be whoever you want and that it’s not imperative to want to be like someone. This is exactly what this song expresses with the lyrics “I don’t ever want to be you” “don’t want to be just like you”. It goes further to the lyrics Go to college, a university, get a real job, that’s what they said to me. But I could never live the way they want.” A lot of students in high school are told that they have to live to a certain expectation but just know that you do not have to because, in the end, it’s all about your happiness and what you want.
2. I Wanna Be Bad By Willa Ford
I love this song and highly recommend you strutting into the school with a bomb AF outfit with this playing in your ears. Not only will you look like a badass but you will feel like one. This song was featured in What A Girl Wants, a movie about a girl named Daphne Reynolds (Amanda Bynes) who leaves New York for London in hopes of getting to know her father, Lord Henry Dashwood (Colin Firth), who doesn’t know he has a daughter. It was included in the scene where Daphne tried to get into the fashion show that her father invited her to but she was late and snuck into the back where the models were, only to be pushed unto the runways and she modeled like a pro in her blue jeans, white tank top, hat, and jacket. Everyone wants to be bad, so why not feel like the bad one with this song bumping in your headphones while you enter the school.
3. The Middle By Jimmy Eat World
High school can be scary but it’s not something that Jimmy Eat world can’t fix. This song is all about being the best you and knowing that everything is going to be alright. High school can have a lot of pressure but this song can and will help you get through it when you add it to your playlist. During those times where you feel down in school, turn on this song and ease your mind, I promise you will feel better.
4. Smells Like Teen Spirit By Nirvana
In high school, you’re going to have people who judge and are quick to assume. For example, if someone threw a house party, and the next day at school people talked about how one person was kissing this other person and how provocative it was. In “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, Kurt Cobain says the line “With the lights out, it’s less dangerous. Here we are now, entertain us.” Think of it as people who have sex in the dark, it’s to a way to forget any imperfections. That’s what this line is and it speaks perfectly about high school. Add this to your playlist to remember that everyone, including those who judge you, has imperfections, so you can be yourself and not worry about what others think.
5. Perfect Day By Hoku
Everyone knows this song from Legally Blonde. This song makes me happy whenever I listen to it, which is why I need to share this because you deserve a perfect day and you will get it when you listen to it. It’s catchy and makes you want to be productive as Elle Woods. Believe me, it’s a must to add this to your playlist.
6. Check Yes, Juliet By We The Kings
It’s been a while since we’ve heard the band name We The Kings but this song was popular during the early 00s. “Check Yes Juliet” is a very cheesy yet Teen-like song that is well-known and I know you would love this in your playlist. It’s all about living your life to the fullest with that special boyfriend or girlfriend. It’s about forgetting the status quo and appreciating that special person you see as marriage material. And even though things may not go the same way, you will always have those special memories.
7. Basket Case By Green Day
Here is another teen angst song by Green Day, a band known for angsty music. This song is about anxiety, panic attacks, and going insane, which we all feel, especially in high school. By adding this to your playlist, you will know that you are not the only one to feel pressured. There are a lot of expectations and school work in high school, which can drive one crazy. Hear this song to remind you that you are not the only student who feels that way.
8. We Are By Tupelo Honey
This song was in Radio Rebel and Degrassi, which are both great to watch. You are allowed to be who you want to be and it’s awesome when you have friends who accept the real you. And that’s exactly what Tupelo Honey wanted to say in this song. When you have friends who build you up, no one can tear you down. So, find those friends in school and listen to this together.
9. Gives You Hell By All-American Rejects
This most definitely needs to be in your playlist because high school has people who you are going to want to give the middle finger every second. Everyone has that one teacher and those few students who get on their nerves 24/7. You must add this to your playlist to survive while being around those people.
10. The Great Escape By Boys Like Girls
This band is known in the early 00s and is loved, still. “Great Escape” is one of their well-known hits that’s about being free and having fun with your best friends. There are times in high school when you need an escape, and hanging out with your friends while blasting this is a great escape from all of the crazy that goes on in school.
High school can be tough, which is why I hope these songs will help get you through it. Let us know your favorite songs that have helped you through school in the comments section below!
