While we can all dream of having an apartment with lots of windows and natural light, truth is, a lot of apartments lack brightness. Even if we can’t have light gleaming into our rooms, we can still make them appear more vibrant. You can definitely add simple decor to make your apartment feel brighter, so don’t worry if you don’t have big windows, or any windows in your bathroom. Here’s some items you can pick up, and incorporate inside your apartment for a more radiant atmosphere!
When you want a space to feel brighter, you really want more light in it. Some apartments are older than others, some lights built into the ceiling do not project light as well as a lamp would. If you have a corner of a room that you’re really trying to make glow – try a floor lamp. What is good about lamps is that you can find them at a reasonable price, at stores like Target and they are often not difficult to put together. Also, depending on the size, they can easily fit into a spot that will not take up much space. And, floor lamps usually come in neutral colors which makes it easy to match with which ever theme you are going for.
Obviously, candles may be a given – since they literally are bright when they are lit. But, adding simple decor such as candles can make your apartment instantly feel more like home, even if the candles are not lit and are just sitting nicely on a bureu or a coffee table. But, when you do light candles and the overall light of a room is already pretty dim – they can definitely let off a glow to the atmosphere. Also, finding candles that come in bright or neutral colors can make decorative pieces while making a room more colorful.
Your bedspread can really set the tone of how you want your room to look. This means, making your bed everyday is a good idea – but it also means, that going for a bedspread that is bright can instantly make your room feel like it has more light. Beds usually take up a good amount of space inside your room, so making sure a big fraction of your room looks bright is essential to achieving a spacious, brighter look. This can be easy when trying a simple design or pattern, or a fun solid color that can be dressed up even more with decorative pillows and throw blankets.
Some of the most simple decor can remind us of the outdoors. There has been a trend forever of incorporating plants into your apartment. It doesn’t really matter if they are succulents, real plants, or fake plants you found at Target – the idea of a green, potted plant on your window sill or hanging in your room can make it not only look more eco-friendly and relaxed, it makes for a brighter environment in your apartment. In certain areas like your kitchen, or living room where light may be lacking, adding plants can be an easy way to make it feel more laid back, and like the sun is shining into your apartment!
If you have an apartment that you can paint the walls in, then go for it. Some paint that has been sitting on your walls can look dull, and chip easily. It may be time for a new coat, and this means, you should go for a color that can make your room as bright as possible when there is not enough natural light. Instead of going for a navy blue, try a soft, light blue. Painting your walls with reflective colors, and pastel colors such as light purple, yellow, or mint green can instantly make that room feel comfy, and bright.
Can’t paint your walls? No problem. Simple decor such as removable wallpaper is here to help bring some life to your room. What’s great about removable wallpaper is you can find it in a ton of different prints, that fit your style. And, you don’t have to put it everywhere. So, maybe you’re working from home and the space you turned into your office is looking a little dull. Need a backdrop? Add removable wallpaper to go behind your desktop computer. Or, add removable wallpaper to what ever area you think could use some love. It will not damage your walls, and will be sure to enhance that section of your apartment.
If you have darker pieces of furniture, an easy way (and fun project) to do is to paint your furniture brighter colors. This means, if you have an old burrow or coffee table, try painting it an off white or light gray. Like your bed, furniture is often a big part of what your living space is. So, if you’re looking to add some color into your room, painting your furniture is definitely a good place to start.
We know that simplicity is great, but that doesn’t mean you can’t accessorize still. While you can totally keep it simple, you can also add rugs, throw blankets, pillows, wall art, and curtains into your apartment. You can find a bright accent rug with a pattern you like, which will serve as a centerpiece of the room. Around the rug, you can add other simple decor that works well with the overall theme of the room. Finding bright, eccentric, unique decor can help bring a colorful ambiance to your space while making it look fresh, airy and bright. You want your apartment to feel like you, and be a comfortable space that you can lounge in and have guests over. Making sure it’s decorative, bright, and radiating with light can make it a happy, chill environment for everyone.
