Growing up you often find that there are certain things unique to your home town. Only people from PG County Maryland will understand these 12 things. Read on to reminisce about the good old days.
If you grew up in PG County you know that DMV stands for DC, Maryland, Virginia. It’s such a no brainer that you usually forget to explain that you are not talking about the Department of Motor Vehicles.
You never have and never will call PG by its full name.
PG County is surrounded by some rough areas, and to earn some street cred, you sometimes like to pretend that you grew up struggling in the hood. Most likely, you grew up in the suburbs with a backyard and a white picket fence.
In middle school and high school everyone you knew talked about how they were going to hit X or Y GoGo club that weekend or for so-and-so’s birthday. This was the place to be Friday night… until they all got shut down for having one too many fights breakout.
Everybody knows that the best seafood comes from Maryland. You’ve probably been to an all-you-can-eat crab buffet at least once in your lifetime and have had the pleasure of cracking Old Bay seasoned shells with your bare hands.
Chinese takeout is synonymous with fried chicken and a half-and-half (aka an Arnold Palmer). You might switch it up and get fried rice, but the half-and-half is always a must.
You probably went there after prom, after graduation, for weekend brunch, a late-night study session, etc. You’ve also probably tried all the pancake options and get excited when new flavors are announced.
P.G. County’s public transportation system isn’t the best, so driving is a must. You’re definitely from PG if you bum rides from friends instead of driving your own car.
Even though PG is 499mi2, you feel connected to everybody in the area through your shared experiences and values. City and town distinction is irrelevant as long as your area falls within the PG County range.
New York might have Time Square and great pizza, but DC has free museums, an art scene to die for, and the most beautiful landscape packed into sixty-eight square miles.
