Life in the Real World

15 Signs You’re Definitely Under Five Feet Tall

Life as a short person has it’s downfalls and it’s perks. Sometimes it’s hilarious and convenient, and sometimes it’s just a hassle. If you can relate to these 15 things, there’s a good chance that you’re under five feet tall.

1. You can save money by ordering off the kids’ menu.

Although, if we’re being honest, you don’t even have to ask for a kids’ menu – restaurants just assume you’re under 12 and give you one.

2. You can also save money by shopping in the kids’ section at clothing stores.

When you can actually find something age-appropriate, it’s wonderful. These overalls? $15 from the kids’ section of Target.

3. When flying alone, people gasp and ask you things like “are you flying by yourself?!”

Why yes, I am. I’m on my way home from college, thank you.

4. Once you’re on the plane, it doesn’t get any better.

Flight attendant: *walks up to woman sitting next to me* “Now in the event of an emergency, make sure to secure your mask before hers.”

5. While in the elevator in your dorm, you’ve been asked if you’re visiting an older sibling for the weekend.

This has happened on more than one occasion.

6. When you go to an R-rated movie, you’re always questioned.

I promise I’m not a child!

7. People never believe them when you tell them your actual age.

“No way, you look so young! Well, you’ll appreciate that when you’re older.”

8. You’re not tall enough for Soul Cycle.

9. People always comment on your height.

*gasp* “YOU’RE SO LIIIITTTLEEE!”

10. “Can I pick you up?”

No, you can’t.

11. In the 5 foot area of the pool, you’re completely submerged.

This is inconvenient when trying to enjoy a fun social activity with your taller friends.

12. Cropped leggings are full-length on you.

In the rare event that you can find a pair of leggings that come in a “short” length, it’s a steal.

13. You can never reach anything on the top shelves while shopping.

But by now, you’ve probably become a shelf-scaling expert.

14. When you try to be trendy and wear your hair in braids, it just looks like you’re twelve.

The braid trend is not one that was made for us short girls.

15. When you’re driving, you’re not tall enough for the sun visor to actually be effective.

And don’t even get us started on how close the seat has to be to the wheel in order for you to actually be able to reach the pedals.
