10 Signs You’re A Nursing Major

mm
If you're a nursing major you understand these signs of being a nursing major very well. These are unmistakable signs for someone who is studying to become a nurse. Here are 10 signs you're a nursing major.

The months leading up to college were swamped with humdrum questions about the new chapter of life I was soon to enter. Among the most prevalent was the “What’s your major?” question—usually accompanied with a grimace and a wish of luck each time I answered Nursing. With the completion of my first semester of Nursing school, I’ve come to understand why. Here are 10 signs you’re a nursing major.

1. Free time? Don’t know her.

When you have quizzes/exams weekly, your weekends are pretty much filled with studying. So, when your non-Nursing major friends ask you to go out, you usually have to decline the offer. Another Friday night spent studying Organic Chemistry…great!

2. Snoozing = Losing

In high school, missing a few days of school and managing to get an A or B on a test was no big feat. In college? Zone out for 5 minutes and you’ve missed your professor teach a whole chapter. Get a nice 8 hours of sleep every night in high school? Now you find yourself trying to memorize the difference between hypertonic and hypotonic solutions at 1 in the morning. Sleep is most definitely for the weak.

3. “The Look”

The look you exchange with fellow classmates when you have no idea what your professor is teaching is almost comforting. You understand my struggle too!? Ultimate bond.

4. Study, study, study!

I’ve heard the phrase “You’re always studying!” a l o t. But when the average of your last exam is a 70 (with a curve), you kind of have to.

5. Guilt Trip

The guilt you feel as you’re scrolling down your Instagram feed knowing you have a Chemistry exam, Anatomy practical, and essay due the next day—but continue to scroll. You’ll get around to it. You don’t have the best social life, so it’s fun to see other people posting theirs! Plus, you’re taking a well-deserved break.

6. Walk of Shame

Walking into an exam feeling super confident in the material you ingrained in your head for a week prior feels great. Walking out an exam feeling unconfident because A, B, C, D, and E all sounded right to you—not so great. UGH! Reading each page of each chapter in the book from page headings to picture captions should be a guaranteed 100.

7. C is the new A

Nursing school gives former straight A students a very un-welcomed surprise. You know you’re a Nursing major when you get excited over simply passing an exam. 70!? CHEERS TO THAT. C and flee baby, C and flee.

8. Finals Week, Every Week

When your non-nursing major friends wonder why you’re quite calm during one of the most stressful and frantic weeks of the semester but fail to realize for you, every week is as stressful and frantic as finals week is. No biggie. 3 tests in the span of 5 days? Piece. Of. Cake. (At least we hope so.)

9. Just Keep Swimming

You know you’re a Nursing major when you look forward to next week…every week. “Just gotta get through today and I’m good,” you say to yourself…everyday.

10. It’s fine. I’m fine. You’re fine.

Picture this: You’ve graduated Nursing school and are no longer a broke college student. You have a 3 day work week and the privilege of wearing pajam—scrubs to work. You’re helping people and saving lives. You still have nightmares about Organic Chemistry but overall, all is well. Life is good.
