10 Signs Your Athletic High School Days Are Over

Being an athlete in high school most likely took up way more time in your schedule than you realized … until you got to college. You suddenly found yourself sitting in your dorm with no practices to go to, no games to plan around and nothing to do. Keep reading for 10 signs your high school athletic days are over!

1.  You have to say goodbye to your high school varsity jacket.

It kept you warm for long enough and is full of memories, but it’s time to hang it up for a Syracuse hoodie.

2. You have to learn to schedule the gym and working out into your daily routine.

Wait … you mean I won’t be in shape forever? No more workouts with the team means it’s up to you to keep yourself healthy.

3. You either live vicariously through current team members, or you abandon the sport altogether.

Some people love their sport so much they can’t help but try to stay involved. Others … not so much.

4. You and your old coach are either best friends or you’re thankful you never have to see your coach again.

You either know everything that’s going on in his or her life because of social media, or you haven’t seen them since your final practice.

5. You reminisce with old teammates about the “good ol’ days.”

“Remember that one time coach made us run for an extra ten minutes?”

6. You have to get used to the fact that there’s a new team in your place.

It’s not you and your friends on the field anymore. There’s a new team group chat. Admit it; it hurts a little.

7. You don’t recognize anyone on the team.

Besides realizing there’s a new team, you realize it’s a new team full of people you don’t know.

8. When you pick up your sport for the first time in a while since you’ve graduated, you’re a little rusty.

Wait, what? When did I get old? Why does my leg hurt after stretching?

9. You pick up a new hobby.

Now you have an opportunity to check some other things out. Maybe you’ll start a new sport, or maybe you can write for a campus publication. So many options!

10. You finally get to sit in the crowd and actually watch a game!

Sure, you may have felt the energy from the student section in high school while you were on the field in the game, but have you ever been a part of it?
