Ever since I was a little girl I have been going to camp. This will be my 10th summer heading back to the north woods of Wisconsin for another incredible summer. Whether you are a current camper, alumni, or even a soon to be camper , you will definitely be able to appreciate these twenty signs, even if you cannot relate to them yet! Keep reading for 20 signs you went to overnight camp in Northern Wisconsin!
Ever heard of Agawak, Kawaga, Ojibwa, Horseshoe, Chippewa, or Marimeta? If you have then you know that pretty much defines the north woods of Wisconsin.
The start to a perfect activity day: throwing on every article of lulu lemon clothing that you own. From tank tops to leggings to headbands to sports bras to shorts, you name it and I promise you the campers here will have it.
Did I mention they have free wifi too? This is definitely a sign you went to overnight camp in Northern Wisconsin!
If your mouth isn’t water right now, then you must be crazy! You wait all year long just to pig out on these places for 8 straight weeks. These restaurants become apart of your staple food groups during the summer and you couldn’t imagine life without them!
You wait weeks on to finally be reunited with the opposite gender at a social.
Girls: Spend hours straightening their hair, blowing fuses, doing their makeup and running around camp to find the perfect outfit
Boys: You’ll consider showering and then will throw on a clean shirt (or at least smells clean)
And of course don’t forget to bug the photographers to make sure you get a picture with your siblings.
Definition: A time where kids only wanna play, and counselors only wanna nap.
The best feeling is waking up on an activity day and walking past the waterfront to see the sun shining and the lake as flat as it can be. It’s almost impossible to go a day without hearing someone talking about whats happening down at the ski docks. Skiing is definitely a must if you attend overnight camp. Maybe if you get good enough you will be asked to be apart of the Chippy bats, Agawak ski team, or even the Minocqua bats.
Campers spend an hour or two making their beds, sweeping the floor, and scrubbing the toilet as hard as they can to ensure they get a perfect 70 on inspection. If you’re a true camper you know that each cabin cleanup comes with a fight over someone who did the wrong job or didn’t do their job at all.
PS: good luck to all the servers this summer
Counselors this one is for you!
It’s like survival of the fittest, a race to the last spot in cooking 5th period. Many hearts will be broken when a counselor says, “I’m sorry we don’t have room for your whole cabin that period.”
Let’s be honest here, you pretended to be amazing at soccer just so you could see your best friend at Chippewa or Ojibwa.
That’s just what overnight camp in Northern Wisconsin does. It’s an experience of a lifetime, and something you can’t get over.
It’s not a successful town day unless you hit up all the famous places. Monkey Business, Book world, Five and Dime, Dans Minocqua Fudge, The brewery, Kilwins, Gliks, and Root cellar are all must go to’s on town day!!!
Seeing your parents for the first time in a month brings up many emotions. For some it will bring back the homesickness and for some it will make you camp sick (even though you’re only gone from camp for 2 days)
If you don’t stay at the Waters on parents weekend, is it really parents weekend?
Campfire is a time when the whole camp comes together at once for a session of songs and speeches. Theres nothing better than being in your sweats cozied in your crazy creek with your counselors by your side. Songs may be stuck in your head all year, but you better run to the shower house fast to make sure that fire smell isn’t stuck with you all year as well.
The most competitive part of camp. The chance to be apart of a team. The time where you find your partners in crime.
This is one of the biggest signs you went to overnight camp in Northern Wisconsin. International and male staff are all over the place!
A reflection on the best 8 weeks of your life comes over you as you say your final goodbyes to your new best friends from Atalanta and Arizona. The final glance out the window as the bus pulls away causes tears shed down your face as you realize the summer has come to end.
