Glamour, fame, and even just warmer weather are just a few of the reasons why people move to Los Angeles. But how can you tell a native from a tourist? Keep reading to find out the signs you grew up in Los Angeles!
Late-night cravings? Desperately needing a good milkshake? In-N-Out meets all of those needs. And don’t pretend like you don’t know the secret menu by heart.
If it’s not between 60°F and 80°F, you’re not interested. The only difference between your summer wardrobe and your winter wardrobe is that you occasionally switch out your shorts for jeans- at night -when it’s really cold.
LA traffic is infamous for its pile-ups, delays, rubbernecking and therefore countless hours spent waiting in the car. You’ve learned the hard way to plan ahead, or accepted the reality that you’re just going to be late.
Don’t even bother trying to poke fun about where someone else lives. They may be living in a perpetual blizzard, but “at least we’re not in a drought” becomes the classic response to any comment you make.
It doesn’t matter if you think the Lakers should score a touchdown; the second someone tries to trash talk your city’s team, you are a die-hard fan. And don’t even get me started on the civil war between USC and UCLA.
No lunch? No problem! You just hit up that little fruit stand after work and enjoy some fruit with lemon and chili powder.
As an LA native, you’ve seen all the crazy health trends from smoothies, to juices and detoxes. You may have even participated in a few yourself- and don’t forget to post everything you eat!
From an early age, you’ve been taught to love these two colleges and put them on your list. To be fair, they’re both excellent schools, close by, and give your parents bragging rights. What’s not to love?
Even though you know how to drive in the rain, many Angelinos aren’t used to the slippery road and make LA traffic so much worse. In Los Angeles, even drizzles can cause car accidents.
Looking for something with a little more edge? Los Angeles flea markets are legendary and you know you’ll never be disappointed by the funky jewelry, unique clothes, and interesting decor that they sell.
Unless you’re a skier, the only snow you see is at The Grove in their famous Christmas display. Although the display doesn’t use real snow, at least its not cold! (See No. 2)
Any LA native knows that these are two of the worst freeways you’ll have to drive on. Kiss your free time goodbye, because you’ll be spending it stuck in traffic.
You’re just so used to it at this point-what kind of restaurant doesn’t have gluten free bread, anyway?
As a native, you’ve met tons of people who moved to LA to become rich and famous. None of them have made it yet though.
You might not know how to surf, but you do know how to get a killer tan and enjoy the water.
Just because you live in LA doesn’t mean you live in Beverly Hills. Even if you do live in a “famous” area, you see more tour buses than actual famous people.
Los Angeles is known for it’s excellent Mexican food and Chipotle has become your go-to for great burritos with fresh ingredients. You don’t even care that guac is extra.
While East Coasters are terrified of earthquakes, you’ve slept through most of the ones in your area. If nothing in your house broke, that means the earthquake isn’t worth waking up for.
With everyone participating in the latest health trends, it’s impossible to miss a vegan in Los Angeles. Trust me, you’ll know if you see one- they won’t hesitate to tell you why you should be vegan too!
And you’re right! As they say, “west coast, best coast!”
