12 Signs You Go To An Agriculture Or Tech School

No matter where you go to AG or tech school, there are certain experiences every student can relate to. From the drama at the small schools to the close-knit bond with the people in your major, here are 12 signs you go to an agriculture or tech school!

1. Drama travels fast

Since your school is so small, it’s only expected for news to travel fast. No matter what it is, people are going to find it interesting. The whole school is going to know what happened Friday night by the end of first period on Monday.

2. Showing up to class smelling like actual crap, isn’t out of the ordinary

Whether you’re an animal science major cleaning up after animals, a mechanics major or landscaping, each major has its own smell. No matter how hard you try, you can’t get rid of it before your next class.

3. You know everyone in your grade (and most of the people in other grades)

Most tech/ag schools only accept so many students per year. This leads to extremely small classes and chances are, you’ll have all your classes with the same people.

4. Back to school shopping consists of new work boots and warm clothes

Almost every major requires work boots for class. There’s almost no way around having to get a new pair every year and everyone had to have that Carhartt jacket for the winter time.

5. Your major becomes a family

Spending three hours a day with the same people for three years is going to make you close. But just like every family, it comes with its own drama and fighting.

6. People are always asking you what you actually do during class

During high school (and even now looking back), no one could ever comprehend that I actually worked in barns with animals for class. Explaining to people that yes, I do clean up after animals for a grade, was never an easy task.

7. People will always point out animals while driving down the highway

No matter what your major is, people that know you go to an ag high school are going to assume you love animals. So be prepared to have every farm pointed out to you while driving.

8. The parking lot is always full of trucks

For some people, their truck is the most important thing in the world. That’s their baby and they would do anything for it (until a better one comes along). Trucks are also what 90% of some people’s conversations revolved around. Most of those trucks have some sort of flag off them.

9. Your idea of a party was just people drinking beer around some backyard fire

Almost every Friday or Saturday night, it was a guarantee that someone was having a fire at their house. These fires almost always consisted of people getting drunk off beer and burning anything and everything in the fire.

10. You or someone you know is extremely involved in FFA

While some Ag/Tech schools are more involved in FFA than others, there will always be that one kid who goes above and beyond. They’re the type to attend every convention and become a state officer at some point.

11. Getting into you top choice of major is the best feeling

Freshman year of high school is hard enough without having to worry about getting into the major you want for the next three years. But the joy of getting into your top pick after all that hard work is one of the best feelings.

12. Even if you don’t continue your education in the same field, you’ll never regret where you went to high school

While some people pick these types of schools to avoid going to college after, some end up realizing that their initial plan isn’t the best fit for them. It’s completely okay to change your mind. But no matter what you do or where you go after graduation, chances are you won’t forget where you came from.
