The trends of the town mostly depend on your age, but regardless of your knowledge, you’ll always be able to spot out the key ingredients in what makes up the town of New Canaan.
1. Your go-to shoes are your white Adidas sneakers
Whether you’re wearing a jean skirt or lulu’s, you’re white Adidas sneakers always complete the outfit. They give it that vibrant bright pop along with comfort and style. Although you’re one of thousands of girls wearing them, you know it’s because they’re the hottest shoe on the market right now and it goes with any outfit. Simple, easy and stylish all in one.

Just make sure you don’t forget to grab a blueberry muffin by the hot coffee to complete your morning.

5. The moms in this town are more fit than you’ll ever be
Thanks to Oxygen Fitness and Embody, the women in this town that are 40 years old and up, are more in shape and healthy than any single high school or college student. The 5:30 boot camps, the never-ending walks in Irwin park and the 0 calories meals they eat help them get that toned body that all us girls pray for.
6. It’s weird if you don’t own a Jeep Wrangler
Top down, music blasting and Ray bans on, congrats, you’re the definition of a New Canaan teen. Walk through town once and you’ll see every color jeep that’s ever made. Although summer in New Canaan can be more boring than you ever imagined, a good group of people, a jeep and some great music can make you’re day that much better.

7. The peak of your frustration has been from the traffic at NCHS
Once that bell hits 2:05, you know it’s life or death. You’ve never moved faster in your entire life to get to your car so you can leave the parking lot as fast as you can without hitting anyone or getting hit. It doesn’t help that the impatient moms are rushing to get out of the pick-up line. The slower you move, the more time you wait in the parking lot and the more angry you get when people won’t let you pull out of your spot.

8. You hate everything and anything about Darien
Do I need to say more?
9. Red isn’t your color, but you wear it anyway
Although our colors are red and black, let’s face it, no girl likes to wear red. We do it because we have to and we love our town and for sporting events, if you aren’t displaying any school spirit, you may as well not be there.
10. You’ve lost your voice at least once after a sporting event in high school
Whether you’re screaming your best friends name, you’re boyfriends name, you’re always screaming. The adrenaline and excitement just gets the best of you, especially when New Canaan is winning by a solid amount (which is usually all the time).

11. A snow day consist of 2 inches of snow
Yes we love snow days, but do we always need them? No. However, the first snow fall of the year is always over-exaggerated, so whether it be a sprinkle or a couple inches, NCPS will always feel the need to call a snow-day, but don’t worry, no one’s complaining.
12. The Holiday Stroll is the peak of your Winter
Santa Claus is coming to town! When the Christmas lights go up, that’s when you know it’s time. All down Elm Street, Christmas spirit fills the air with Christmas characters roaming and the smell of good food, but everyone knows that most popular spot of the evening is the Waffle Cabin.
13. You’ve never seen something more beautiful than Elm Street during the holidays
When it hits December, all you notice is the Christmas lights that hang above Elm Street. Don’t lie, you’ve more than likely almost gotten into a fender bender because you’re so mesmerized by the lights. Just a warning – your Snapchat stories will be overloading with the same picture of these lights for about 3 days.
14. Bussey’s Bomb Squad is what made your high school experience
The screaming crowd of the student body hypes you up just that much more for a sporting event. The traditional chants and screams make you feel more accepted than you could ever imagine. The swarm of bodies all dressed in the same color brings students together. You really can’t understand it until you’ve experienced it.
15. You’re convinced the Waveny Mansion is haunted
The fact that no one lives there and it’s a mansion, already justifies it’s haunted. Not to mention the fact that most of it is made out of dark and creepy wood and there’s paintings of old people on the walls. The only time it’s not creepy is when it’s being used for parties, which is at least once a month.
16. Your best meal will be from Apple Cart
If you’ve ever been to Mead Park, you know what to do. There’s absolutely nothing better than anything on the Apple Cart menu. You’re really living life wrong if you’ve never been there.
17. You’re most relaxed when you’re in the trails of Waveny
There’s nothing like going on a run in Waveny or walking your dog throughout the trails. The endless amount of green you see makes you feel like you’ve entered another universe. The freshness of the air makes you feel a 100x better than you did before you started running, and at the end of it, you know you got a good workout.
18. You ran girls track at least once in your high school experience
Admit it, we all did it. We all “wanted to stay in shape” but none of us actually ended up going to practice as much as we said we would and some of us even barely showed up to the meets. We just did it to get the free pinnie and try to convince ourselves that we were staying in shape. Of course, besides the girls that did it year round, props to you.
19. You own at least one clothing item from Vineyard Vines
Boy or girl, mostly boys though, you own something that has the little whale on it. As much as we stereotype this company and make fun of it, it has nice clothes and it really meets the style for any event you may have coming up. You don’t have to admit it, but we know you shop here.

20. Dunning Stadium set high expectations for any other stadium you will ever visit
As NCHS students, we’re used to a stadium that looks like it belongs at a small university. We didn’t choose to live like this, we were just blessed with it. Dunning Stadium really is a monumental aspect of New Canaan that we should all greatly appreciate.
21. You’ve never appreciated a place more in your life
With the up’s and down’s, New Canaan really is one of the most well-respected, appreciated and luckiest towns in the East Coast, which is something we can all agree on. And I think we can all also thank everyone who makes this town what it is, giving it a sense of community, care and loyalty. Go Rams.
