10 Signs You Are A True One Direction Fan
Everyone grows up having some sort of dedication and obsession with a certain band. For my mom, it was Duran Duran, but for me and many other girls, it was One Direction. I was the type of fan that knew every song by hear and even could point out who was singing which lyric. If you want to test out if you were or maybe still are a true One Direction fan, here are some noticeable signs.
1. You bought a life-size cardboard cutout of your favorite member.
I loved having people walk in my room for the first time and almost having a heart attack when they saw a life-size cutout of Zayn Malik just casually chilling in my bedroom. You probably guarded this cardboard cutout with your life. Don’t lie it probably was your first kiss too. There was even a video of a girl marrying her cardboard cutout and part of you probably realized that they may be you one day.
2. You’ve read all the fanfics and maybe even wrote your own.
You vicariously lived through fanfics of you somehow running into Harry and getting married. Don’t even get me started on all the dirty fanfiction either. The second you probably saw the movie “After” appear on Netflix, you instantly knew it was based on a One Direction fanfic. I mean you can’t be a true One Direction fan if you haven’t spent hours online reading tons of fanfic and hoping that it would magically happen to you one day. Also you probably lowkey read through all the Larry fanfic and part of you started to convince yourself it was true.
3. When Zayn left the band you thought the world was over.
Reminding a true One Direction fan of the day that Zayn left the band is like reminding them of one of the most traumatic historical events that ever occurred in this world. It probably even tops a pandemic taking over the world. I vividly remember the nightmare of that day and how I was nonstop crying and locked myself in my room. Some of my friends even left school because they could not control their emotions. For me, the day was even worse because it was the day I was officially going to tell Make-A-Wish that I wanted to meet One Direction for my wish. Zayn was my favorite so I was absolutely heartbroken. Even if you weren’t a big Zayn fan, you still grieved his exit and were disappointed by his responses to leaving the band.
4. You still have all the recordings from their concerts and would willingly go broke if they decided to do a reunion tour.
I’m not going to lie sometimes I sit in my room and listen to all my old One Direction concert videos. If you listen closely you can hear me screaming and crying the lyrics in the background. You probably still hold onto these cringey videos because they’re all you have left. It really shows your dedication as a fan to still keep all the videos of you screaming at the top of your lungs that you love Harry Styles. The Jonas Brothers reunion gave you hope because you thought that meant One Direction might follow in their footsteps. You would literally pay all the money in the world, no matter how old you are to travel anywhere to see them all play once again.
5. You would still be highly offended if someone called you a “carrot.”
Were you ever a true fan if you didn’t understand what a “carrot” meant? The whole phrase began when Louis was asked what he looked for in a girlfriend and he replied that he likes girls who eat carrots. Thus the phrase was born, but then it slowly began to turn into a term to refer to those who were new to the fandom and weren’t true fans. We all know those girls who got front row tickets to a One Direction concert but only knew “What Makes You Beautiful.” That’s a total carrot move. If someone called you a carrot now you’d still go off on them and spit out every fact you know about the band in detail.
6. You created or followed a One Direction fan Instagram or Twitter account for one of the boys and it most likely still exists.
Mine was all about Zayn and I literally would spend hours editing pictures of him to post on that account. You would also try to find “rare” pictures of the boys to post because you know people just love unseen pictures of them. You would gain so many followers if you posted an unseen picture too. You most likely spent any ounce of your free time editing pictures to post. Also, you probably followed a million other accounts that only posted information about the boys. Some of the fan accounts I followed would actually track the locations of all the boys so people would know where they were at all times. Now that I think about that, it’s kind of creepy.
7. You still have all the dance moves memorized to “Best Song Ever.”
Even if you’re a bad dancer, you vividly remember all the dance moves whenever you hear the song come on. When the music video came out you probably watched it nonstop because it was just that good.
8. You still follow all the boys’ solo careers even if it makes you sad.
Yes, you still listen to all Zayn’s new music and are so proud of him even though he left the band. Although it may break your heart, you’re still happy the boys are succeeding and releasing their own music. However, all the One Direction albums will still hold a special place in your heart.
9. You still own “Our Moment” perfume and love the smell.
I refuse to get rid of the “Our Moment” perfume because it smells too good and also reminds me of their fabulous, dreamy commercial of all the boys. You may or may not still have the body lotion too.
10. You could still name every song off of every album by just listening to the first 20 seconds.
You have listened to every album religiously 1000s of times so it’s impossible to not know every song that One Direction has ever created. You also probably scream Zayn’s high notes at the top of your lungs just because you can.
Never lose hope in your heart that One Direction will reunite again someday. Us directioners must always stick together.
